Wreck of the unbeleavable

Ah, no link......

I looked it up, there are several videos with similar subject. Which one is it? I tried watching one with the Kali statue, but didn't get what the guy was talking about as it was a bit disjointed without knowing where he was coming from.

I see Damien Hirst is an artist and collector and a bit controversial.

If you would provide a link and a little detail on what it is and why you find it interesting I'd be very happy to watch it.

Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable is a documentary (I suppose) film that chronicles the story behind artist Damien Hirst's huge exhibition of treasures supposedly obtained from an ancient shipwreck. The shipwreck is entirely fictional, by the way.

I haven't seen the film. I think it's being shown on Netflix or is available for download.

The "artifacts" shown in the film are all creations of modern day artist Damien Hirst. The ship, The Unbelievable, is imaginary, as is the story of its shipwreck and its later discovery.

The artist created the "artifacts" to accompany his exhibition and the fictional account of the shipwreck and its discovery. Somebody spent a lot of money on all this, though.

You can read about it here, here, and here.

I was hooked line and sinker, by the show, it is a fake after watching it the second time I saw mucky mouse in the final scene.

But the first viewing had me on the edge of my seat

Got to give the guy credit for selling a hoax

I suppose you could call it a hoax or a fake.

I like the term "mockumentary", myself. And from clips I've seen, it appears to be very well done. It definitely isn't one of those cheaply produced and cheaply filmed I've-Found-Bigfoot type of things. It's both entertainment and was used as a promotional tool to sort of advertise Damien Hirst's exhibition of his artwork...sculptures and such.

When all is said and done, the art Hirst created for the exhibition is anything but a hoax. Some of it is quite stunning.

I think I read that it took Hirst ten years to put it all together.

I'm sure I'll watch it one of these days.

My mouth has been wide open in awl for the last hour, this is on Netflix and it is amaseing

What a recent find from the sea

It is great to see art today elicit such a wonderful response! I bet you the artist would be VERY pleased to read your initial reaction. And it does not matter that you initially thought this was a real shipwreck and documentary—I suspect that is exactly the effect for which the artist was looking. This seems to a a combination performance, sculpture and visual art show. What an amazing idea staging it all as a “shipwreck.”

It sounds like a great idea and concept, doesn't it? I understand Hirst financed the whole kit and kaboodle from his personal fortune to the tune of around $65 million. He's reputed to be the wealthiest artist in the UK, by the way.

Apparently, though, the art world was kinda up in the air regarding what to think of the Venice exhibition.

You can read one absolutely scathing review by clicking here. Looking at the exhibition space, itself, my opinion is that the space is all wrong for what's being exhibited. The texture of brick and wooden beams just doesn't work for me in conjunction with the pieces being shown. Plus it visually diminishes the actual size of some of the pieces.

But reading that review makes me think Hirst might have grounds for a defamation lawsuit in the British courts. The reviewer just rakes him personally over the coals.

I don't like a lot of Hirst's work, but this latest kind of interests me. I'd like to see it.
