WWB ammo issue?

tocohillsguy,
Glad you IDed the problem. Let us know how it goes when S&W does the fix.

I had the exact same problem with my S&W 329 Nightguard. Sent it back to S&W and got it back in 2 weeks. They replaced the crane and firing pin. It's been 100% reliable with any ammo since then.

Re-opening this thread to provide an update. I sent the gun back to S&W and they replaced the firing pin. Didn't take very long, but today was the first chance I had to get back to the range. Using the same box of WWB, the gun fired without incident. All is well.

Never had any light strike problems with it, but had two under-powered rounds in one 100 round box. Guy next to me saw the bullet fall two feet in front of me. No way in my brain it's a gun problem. Lots of people say no problem with the smaller boxes, just the bulk. OAL is all over the place, so since now I can buy Federal and Blazer brass cheaper than WWB since Walmart jacked prices up on ammo, I will stick with those two.

I've pretty much sworn off Winchester White Box. There is other ammo that is just as inexpensive and works better. I had problems with my SIG P226 not locking the slide back after the last shot. Thought it was a magazine problem. For the heck of it I switched to some Romanian Hotshot ammo. Slide locks back evey time now.

I was told in my class to get my permit that the wwb from wal mart is bad ammo. we were shown pictures from guns that blew up because of it. i know that is the extreme, but from what our insructor said they have been taking out notices that say dont use that ammo in your gun. the shippers have been taking them out of the gun box. and it will void your warranty if you use it. i am trying to find out more about it becuase i bought 300 of hollow points and really dont want to throw them out.

Just over a year ago I bought a S&W 625-2. At last count I have fired 850 rds. of WWB 230 gr. FMJ in the 625. Accuracy has been extremely good. Function has been 100%. I also shoot a lot of WWB 165gr. FMJ in my S&W .40 Glock G-22. I have not ever had a single issue with WWB ammo in either the S&W or the Glock. The same is true of Magtech and Federal Champion and Tula ammo.

I don't buy it..... the stuff about WWB blowing up guns. Been using it almost exclusively for a year have run thousand of rounds through 9,40,and 45... flawless. have not heard any of this. Where did you "hear" this, what actual documentation do you have, or was this an instructor at a gun store telling you this... ;) How bout something to back this up....
