About 1 week or so into boot camp and finding the gates of Hades had opened, the DI came out and announce that there were to many Marine recruits and the Navy wanted 6 from each platoon. Were there any volunteers? I had been told to never ever volunteer and didn't stick up my hand. Those that did never went to the Navy, but displaying that they did not want to be in the DI's Marine Corps was NOT the right thing to do. He treated them accordingly. Any kind of volunteer was hard to find after that "lesson".
