Seeing s&wchad's very impressive stock of ammo and reloading components in the "What's in your stockpile" thread made me wonder: Do most of us keep all our ammo, guns, components, etc. in one place, or do we hedge our bets by keeping some in different locations?
I keep most of my stuff in a safe in my primary residence. We have a country house with a gun safe, and I keep a few guns and a pretty good bit of ammo stored there. I also keep some primers at both places. My reasoning is that a fire or burglary at one of the places wouldn't wipe me completely out. My nephew borrowed one of my Ruger .45s to hunt with last Fall, and when he mentioned returning it, I told him to just keep it in his safe. That gives me some firearms stored in three places. I am going to take a couple of cheap shotguns and .22 rifles and store them in outbuildings on the farm at the country house, both for quick access if I am outside and have need of a long gun quickly, and to hedge against a catastrophe such as a fire or burglary. Come to think of it, I usually have at least one handgun in my truck, and very often two or more, along with a shotgun or rifle, and three or four hundred rounds of various types of ammo, so there is another way I disperse some of my stuff.
If I didn't have another residence to store some of my stuff in, I would seriously consider renting one of the small lockers at one of the storage places to store at least some ammo and reloading components.
Here is a small part of one of my "accumulations." I have had to move most of the shotgun shells out since that picture was made, in order to store centerfire handgun ammo. It seems like there has been plenty of shotgun ammo straight through the shortage, so I figure the cf handgun and rifle stuff is more "precious."
Am I just paranoid, or is this something others do also?
