YOUR FIRST HANDGUN?

A Ruger Standard purchased new in 1974. Mrs. swsig wanted a High Standard to replace the one she lost in a divorce, but when the LGS owner test fired the High Standard he had, it jammed every time. The Ruger worked perfectly, so that's what we bought. We still have it, and after a trip back to the factory to replace a defective ejector, it still works perfectly.

My first was a CZ .32 military surplus, IIRC. I bought it in 1968. I was home on leave when Dr. MLK was assassinated and had to drive back to base in Colorado among all the riots. Not that it would have done me any good: I had to get a firing pin for it because the Original was broken. I can't remember ever shooting it.

The first gun I bought, shot, and remember was a Model 36 S&W. This was in 1970 or thereabout. I remember it as being a handful to my uninitiated self. KIcked!

First firearm was a J.C. Higgins .410 single shot. Wish I still had it.

First handgun was a brand new Gold Cup National Match when I was 15 and working in the LGS. Wish I still had it.

First handgun I purchased was a S&W Model 915. It was a little cheaper than the 5906, and I liked the black finish.

First firearm was a custom-stock .308 when I was 10. I sold it for the cash to buy the 9mm. What I wouldn't do to get that rifle back....

Always awesome!!!

After I stopped being a poverty stricken student and unemployed graduate in the late 1970s, I bought a brand new stainless steel Ruger Super Single-Six .22 revolver. I still have it.

My first center fire handgun was a .45 Colt Ruger Blackhawk I bought at Bixler's Hardware store in Carlisle, PA. They made me a great deal because I could pay with a check instead of a credit card. I still have that too.

My first S & W was one of the Model 1917 .45s that came back from Brazil. I always wanted one of the big 1917 .45s because my dad had a Colt version but sold it. Plus I thought the South Americans put cool crests on guns. I put an FDL Wondersight on it so that I had an adjustable sight. I still have that gun too.

1st firearm was a Marlin 781 I got from my late brother at Christmas 1979. Started me down the road to a lifelong enjoyment of guns.

1st handgun was a Ruger KP89. Not a great 1st pistol. Had to go back twice for warranty work.

I wish I knew then what I know now about 3rd Generation S&W pistols.

1955: First handgun- Iver Johnson B/T five shot .32 short revolver.
purchased from a fellow "Coastie" for $10.00. Went home on leave and Mom took one look at it and took it as Her "apron pocket gun". She carried it for all Her life, even after I joined the Police Department and purchased Her a nickeled 2" RB Chief with pearl grips.

Around 1980 I bought an H&R 676, 22/22mag revolver. On the way home from the gun store I stopped at the creek, threw in a bottle, and cut loose. That bottle probably floated down to New Orleans. I didn't come near it.
I learned to shoot by reading Ed McGivern's book, Fast and Fancy Revolver shooting.
Alas, I loaned that gun to a friend and never got it back. I'm still mad at that *** for that. But he and his dad took me to a lot of their secret hunting and fishing spots so I think about that whenever I get mad at him.
