Your First S&W

my first was a 2213 semi 22cal, then the 686 with 6 in barrel, and most recent mod 410s 40 cal.;)

Model 38, 2 inch, nickel plated. Bought it from a guy I worked with when I was in the Air Force in Maine in 1988. First time I shot it the nickel blew off the top strap by the Barrel/cylinder gap. The guy who sold it to me bought it back. I've always liked the Airweight Bodyguards, nickel plating not so much.

8/02 found me selling my Ruger BH .45 convertible to fund the purchase of my first S&W - a new 625MG in .45 Colt. It had been in the pusher's case for most of a year, but the day after I sold that gun - and appearred there, it was gone. Saddened, I took my wife to the Gulf Coast after Labor Day on the proceeds. The first night found her chilled - and wanting a blanket. I pulled a blanket from the closets top shelf in the condo - and a blue plastic box bonked me in the head. It was that new 625MG - she had been the one who bought it! Both are keepers.

The top one, with Ahrends grips, is the start of my S&W madness - a 625-7 MG in .45 Colt. It was joined several years ago by an older madel, a 625-6 MG, in LN shape - as a range/woods shooter (That's why it sports the weater resistant S&W Dymiondwood combats!) - to take some of the 'wear' off the sentimental favorite. Yeah, purists would wonder - shooting one with forged hammer & trigger to preserve the one with MIM parts - makes sense to me. That turned out to be an expensive vacation - I was so happy I nearly melted my CC buying her souvenirs!

Mine was a NIB 4" Highway Patrolman. 1970. While it was a fine revolver, it was my first gun trade and likely the worst decision of many. Nothing wrong with the 28, it was a matter of what I gave up. The tale is too sad and too long to include. Youth is wasted on the young....

Hi,

my first S&W was my 17-4 back in 1985. Stocks are brand new.

My third one, 27-3, bought in 1988 and refurbished early this year.

My second one was a 29 (no recollection what dash) that I bouhgt in 1986 and sold in 1990

Mine was a Model 66-2 6" given to me for takin care of a buddy...about to trade it for a 642 NIB no lock. Once I got my 66-2 2.5" for CCW, I feel the need to go lighter for mild weather carry.

Mine is a 686-1, 4" bbl just purchased this week from another member here. I've wanted to upgrade from a Taurus .357 to a Smith for a couple years, and it finally happened.

Now, I want some sort of J-frame for myself and one for the wife. This is one expensive hobby I've got. And the bad (good) thing about our hobby is, there's always plenty of enablers around the interwebs!

My First S&W was a 2" Model 60 that I bought back in 1988..
Wish I still had that little stainless gem..
Guess I'll have to be happy with the ones that remain currently..

My first was a Model 36 3" I bought from F.Bob Chow in San Francisco. All of $95.00 in 1972.

My mom helped me buy a Model 18 from Warshall's Sporting Goods in downtown Seattle around 1967 or so. I still have it and it's one of my favorite 22s. I worked as a printer's devil for about two years to save up the $87.00 to purchase it.

Mdl 19 2 1/2 in

I bought this about two years ago in a local gun shop for around $400.
CIMG2652.jpg

I traded it to a friend of mine about 6 months ago for a 629. He then traded it to his father for a 6 in 686. Well, just about three weeks ago I find this gun hanging on the same rack, at the same gun store, that looked like something I used to own. Well, come to find out it was the same gun I had. Except this time it was $450. I almost bought it on the spot, but for some reason I can't bring myself to buy the same gun from the same guy twice. And yes I kicked myself all the way back home for trading it, but I think I got the better deal, a 2 1/2 in 629 for a 2 1/2 19 with about 350 rounds of .38s.

Hy first was a model 66 with a 2-1/2 inch barrel. When I got it the insert was missing from the front sight so I took a plastic red comb and made one, worked good just wish I still had it.

I bought a Mod 60-15 NIB about two years ago, didn't have a S&W gun before then, although I may have several semi-autos. Then I started to read this forum and see all the great S&W older revolvers out there. Since then I've added a 10-5, 36 no dash, 19-4, and a 67-1 to the herd. I am now enjoying them all.

My first S&W is (I still have it) a 4" Model 28 Highway Patrolman with target grips. I bought it to stand in for a Colt Python I sent in for repairs after I buldged the barrel with a squib load backed by a normal live round. I have since bought many others and still have all of them in my collection. I still have the Python as well.

Model 10, 4" nickel finish

1977; I was newlywed and my buddies were asking what gun I would buy to have at home for my new wife to defend herself with while I was working. My gunning experience at that time was as a bird hunter in south/central Kansas, with a single-shot, break-action 12 gauge. (Dad, of course carried his Browning A5, which pretty much left me with little to shoot at- but I digress) A security guard at my wife's place of employment heard of my plight, and offered to sell me this Smith, including a basket-weave duty holster for $150. I learned much about hand-gunning with that revolver, and enjoyed every minute of the process-

Of course, I also began reading stuff like Guns & Ammo and Shooting Times, and talking with other guys at the range; it wasn't long until I "needed" another gun that was miraculously available for purchase, or trade. Since I was newly wed and essentially broke, the model 10 went with a bit of "boot" money in trade, for a Marlin .44 mag lever action, if I recall correctly.

Regret is a terrible thing....

Christmas of 1966, I was a senior in high-school and my dad gave me a like-new '59 vintage Model 27, 6 1/2" barrel. In the decade that followed I shot thousands of rounds through it, mostly handloads with hard-cast lead SWC Keith style bullets, around 160 grain in weight. My standard load for those years was 7.2 grains of Unique. I still have the gun but don't shoot it anymore, have "retired" it.

First S&W I purchased was a Model 67 purchased right after they came out in '72, I had just gotten out of the Army and was enchanted with the idea of stainless steel, wanted a Model 66 badly but they were real hard to come by, so I "settled" for the 67. I still have that gun also.
