Your First S&W

OY! I hate these threads. I R old, have a severe case of CRAFT & can never remember if I've already posted.:(

"Search" says no, so here it is. '64 M28-2 I bought a couple years ago. Definitely bought a bit too soon, but they weren't budging on the price. Wish I had some of Iggy's hunkerin' skills. ;)

My first S&W purchase was a model 15 with 4 inch barrel. It was the greatest thing I had ever owned at that time. I wish I still had it. I was a young, married GI at the time and I sold it to finance the purchase of my first 357 magnum, a model 19.

My first S&W Wheelgun was my Granddad's Model 60.

I've been collecting stainless snubnosed S&W's ever since.

On the day I turned 21 I bought a model 28 with 6" barrel. Next a 21/2 inch model 19. Then a model 36. Then a model 13. Now I just have the model 36 and a 4" model 19.

Smith and Wesson Model 10.

I had to give it back when I left the department in '86.

If anybody has seen MPDC marked D279229, I'd like to get it back.

In the meantime, this look-alike will have to do.

My 1st one was a Model 10-? that was issued to me when I was hired on by the Elyria, Ohio PD in Sept. of 1972.

I remember the 1st S&W I bought for myself though was a Model 57-0.

The 1st handgun I ever bought was a Ruger 3 screw Single Six convertible, that I bought in Big Spring, Tx., when I was first stationed there at Webb AFB in in 1964.

A 6" 686-6. Totally unglamorous, that gun remains to this day among the most accurate handguns I've ever fired. I sold it about a year ago. I wish I could remember why.

Mine was a 5906 back in 1989. I traded in a Colt Government Model 1911 that had been my very first handgun. I still have the 5906 and shoot it regularly. It has been awesomely reliable and it's accurate and fun to shoot. Great gun and tremendously underrated by the shooting press.

My first S&W was a 629, 6" barrel, back in about 1982. It was counterbored and pinned, so I guess it was a no dash. I was more accurate with 44 mag rounds with that gun than I was with my brother's Python with 357 mag, go figure. I sold it over 15 years ago, but I have replaced it with a few others. No pictures though.

A used and poorly stored Bodyguard, good bore and cylinder, but covered in surface rust and pitted. It was so ugly I had it hard chromed. It's the only S&W revolver I've ever had refinished. That was 1977 and I still have it.

I bought a 19 in four inch. I sure miss that gun. I paid a whopping $225 for it and sold it for $400. I thought I was the smart one.................It gets better. I purchased a Ruger .22 for $50 on a yard sale. Cleaned it, and traded across for a Winchester 54 in .30-06. Cleaned it and an hour later traded it for a beautiful 13-3 Heavy barrel in a four inch with three boxes of ammo. Some guy offered me $420.00 two weeks later and I took it. That gun was a real shooter. Money isn't everything. I really wish I had both of those guns back.

My first S&W? A Model 1917 that I bought at a gun show in 1963 when I was 16 years old. As I recall I paid thirty-five bucks for the gun, and for another five bucks the guy selling it tossed in a Hunter holster.

A used Model 27 in 1983. Nice gun, well used but a nice gun. I had just got married and my wife hated my guns. It was followed by a new 629 and model 39 in mid 80's and finally a divorce in the early 90's. Ah the memories.... of the guns NOT the Ex!
