Your opinion is wanted

Please explain to me how I get any money not working.

I know a young female that wouldn't work in a pie factory and is not worth the powder it would take to blow her to Hades. She has a child and says she is not on welfare. It's not welfare, it's money that the govt. has to give away to people.
I think from what I've observed all you have to do is not work and sign up for all the programs where the govt. has money that they are giving away. Larry

"…Respect, Politeness, Ambition and Gratitude…"

These are what's missing in more and more people.

Restaurant service where I live is horrible. I wish I understood why they ask for a tip before any product or service has been delivered. That just rewards mediocrity.

I give up: what does SWMBO stand for?
Service is always better the farther away from the city (Pittsburgh) you get. I really think it's kinda low to have a tip jar located beside every cash register, no matter what I am buying. Same with a salesperson stating that I will be getting a satisfaction review of him/her, whatever I am buying, with "anything less than a 10 means that I have failed in performing my job." To be honest, I prefer to work with a female salesperson when I buy a new car. I don't care if she looks like Olive Oyle, as long as she's pleasant. But don't beg for good satisfaction ratings when I'm spending >$45,000. I'll stop right there with this post!
The tip jars gotta go.

Had a new furnace and AC installed in March.

The neighbor had his done last fall and highly recommended the company.

They weren't the cheapest quote by far but what the hell, the neighbor had good luck.

Three young guys showed up on time and busted their *** all day taking out old, putting in new, did a great job.

A week later, I noticed a noise when the furnace started up.

Called in and asked for a service tech, they sent one out when I got home from work AT 8 PM. Guy changed out a part and its been great since

So yes, there is good service.

So yes, they guys wore jeans and T-shirts, who cares?

Many employers are severely short-staffed these days. It seems that during Covid, a lot of relatively low-wage employees changed careers, leaving a lot of workplaces hurting.

Respectfully, sir, I would suggest that those unmanned registers at Lowe's were probably unavoidable...I commend your wife for her understanding. :)

Re-read my post.........They didn't schedule any cashiers that day........Those employee's "buzzard watching" the SCL could have been running registers

Yes, better to have young guys in t-shirts and jeans who work hard-and know what they are doing-than corporate executives in designer suits and custom shirts with French cuffs, wing tip shoes who are crooks and swindlers.
Again, it's a management problem. Back in 1976 one friend observed to me that a lot of companies were no longer that great to work for, cutting back on benefits, always diddling with retirement programs, blaming the rank and file when things go bad, lack of loyalty to employees, etc. Many companies are like the military-do a poor job of training. A young member of my church, an auto mechanic-excuse me, technician-said at one dealership he worked at the only time he saw the General Manager was when he gave his notice. At the McDonald's I regularly patronize I often see the manager in the evenings, on weekends, behind the counter, dealing with customers, in the back, etc. That McDonald's has a number of new hires, properly trained, showing up clean, well groomed, etc.

There ya go. Its a management problem. Most managers are just young people who got the job because they managed to stick around long enough. They're never been taught any management skills at all.
Many are bullies with an "I'm the BOSS!" attitude. This is especially true in retail. Some 20 year old becomes a department manager and immediately starts pushing his weight around and picking on the employees under him. He never listens and according to him, he's never wrong. Before long, his workers hate him and the job.
The last boss I had started out that way. He only got the job because he sucked up to the retiring boss and they knew each other before he was even hired. We went to his boss. All of us as a group and said we ain't puttin' us with this. His boss set him straight quite hard, sent him to several management classes and he improved greatly. But I still never liked him.

An explanation

I asked for opinions and have been richly rewarded. A lady, in particular, seemed offended by my views of service workers, and service work. She missed my point entirely, and gave an itemized list of my faults, and her suggestions about how I could correct them. Nevertheless, I greatly, value and accept her opinion. Her item #1; implies that service people aren't given their due respect, and the blame for disrespect is the fault of the one receiving service. Her item #2 lists the three Countries, and 19 States that she has traveled, and lived in for 70yrs, apparently oblivious to the surroundings. She has my sympathy for her apathy, or blindness. Her item #3 states that I should be thankful for a service person saving us from a job we didn't want. The fact is, that at 90+ yrs., of age that my wife and I are physically, unable to, pick up our meds, and have no choice in the matter.

A lady, in particular, seemed offended ....., apparently oblivious,. .... her apathy, or blindness.

I wasn't offended at all. I just experience life and humanity differently than you do.

I am sorry though that you've felt it necessary to respond to my differing life experience, which you solicited, with name-calling insults.

Agreed. The other issue, which is rarely discussed when the jobs report comes out, is that there is a not insignificant portion of the potential workforce that has simply removed themselves from contention because of the reasons I cite. These people are not considered "unemployed" because, having not applied for any jobs and able to subsist on various handouts, are not available for work and thus not part of the percentage of unemployed persons reported. The unemployment percentage reported might be 8%, but there's an equal or greater percentage not working, not looking, and not wanting to work. There should be four categories: working, unemployed, can't work for a legit reason, and sitting on my can . . .

For many years we have said that there are two types of unemployed. Those who need a job and the unemployable.

When the adult education sector is spending millions every year teaching those "looking for work" how to get out of bed on time, shower, clean their teeth, comb their hair and how to speak reasonably to others, you know there is a problem.

A number of years ago, I was at my cardiologist's office paying my bill. I must have looked a little surprised at the amount, and
Linda the receptionist (Linda was her name) offered to use her credit card to pay it.

Now I'm not a bum, although sometimes I look like one, and I refused her kind offer. Still, it struck me that here was an exceptional and caring woman - one that I would be very proud to have working for me.

I was touched, and as we talked, she informed me that her father was a gun enthusiast. I had a copy of my book in the car, went to get it, autographed it, and gave it to her. I told her that I had never before been offered payment for one of my debts because someone thought that I might need it. I told her flat out how much I appreciated the offer.

Just recently, I found out that the cardiologist had let her go to reduce overhead expenses.

I'm looking for a new cardiologist.

During my decades in the work world I watched things change from benevolent family owned and ran businesses to corporate America.

One year I received a Christmas bonus from "uncle Bob". The business was sold to a corporation and the following year I was given a "working furlough" that required me to work every other week without pay.. Uncle Bob left his employees a fully funded retirement plan for those of us who had the years in to qualify. Two years later we learned that our retirement fund had fallen victim to corporate raiders...gone. Now that pension that I earned is being paid by you, the taxpayers. Yes, some federal agency had to step in and make it right.

When I began my career I had what were known as "benefits" like a good medical and dental plan that was a part of my negotiation for salary. A benevolent employer could look you in the eye and tell.you with a straight face that they valued and rewarded loyalty. By God, you had every reason to be loyal because if you took care of business, they took care of you. They knew your wife's name and how many kids you had.

In my last years before retirement my pay stubs classified me as a "cost center".because as a manager I didn't directly produce revenue. I was required to save millions through efficient management but I didn't make a nickel of direct revenue. Eye opening huh? I went from a valued employee to a mere payroll number.

Yeah, I have a clear understanding of how and why.
The steps we are seeking play out now is just pushing the greed down to the customer level.
Wal*Mart doesn't even want you in their store. You are a risk and potential liability to the corporation. You might slip and fall. They want you to go online to place and pay for your order and the will meet you out at the curb. They don't even want to look at you. Just pay up and shut up.

And this is the employee fault?

Bigweelzip; I'm sincerely sorry that I've offended you. Apparently, you were offended, but a bit untruthful about the matter, I'd also like to apologize for my "name calling insults", but upon reviewing my post, I found I hadn't used "name calling insults. Apparently, you were a bit untruthful about that also. The truth of the matter is; we've both become angry over differences of opinion. Lets both drop the matter, and both benefit.

Okay Chubbo, if you insist on believing you could offend me, so be it, but assigning someone who honestly responded to your request, attributes like "oblivious, apathy, blindness" and now "untruthful", is a distasteful matter.

Service workers Vs service related outfits. First off due to life in the modern world there is vary little loyalty in either group.

A worker upset with things on the job will quite suddenly (no 2 week notice) A employer will also get rid of a worker quickly. Not referring to just the last couple years but 15 years or so.

Dealing with service related people for me for the most part has been satisfactory. We have had people come to the house for appliance/TV warranty issues and all was well.

I sometimes have a problem talking to service advisors at car repair facilities.(Dealerships) The younger the worst they can be! Many seen to have a mind set that the person talking to them does not have a clue of what is wrong with their car/truck and do not like to put down the pertinent info so the mechanic that is going to fix the vechicle gets the whole story.

My background and age I have forgotten more than many of them know and being patronized can be rather frustrating to say the least.

Pensions are covered by an insurance fund by Federal law. The rates are dependent on what percentage of it is fully funded. I got notices when my employers dipped to 85 % covered and when it rose to 90 %. I think there are also laws that regulate how much risk each pension can carry but am not sure if it is laws or insurance policies in the matter.
Sorry that your employers pension was raided by unscrupulous owners.
