Your SW 9mm Tack Driver?

Am I the only one whose love-affair with the Model 39 has NOT abated? I have a 39 no "dash" number, with the wide, long extractor. It is the #1 choice. I don't like to brag, but with 40 pounds of ther S&W's to choose from, the M39 is still the only one that goes with me to the range EVERY time. If I'm going to shoot 9mm through the chronograph, that is THE gun. (Wait - - make that "over" the chrono).

It has a nice shiny basket-weave stamped Ross holster for dress-up occasions, an old Pachmyer "FederalMan" thumb-break holster for regular dress, and a few extramags. It is still as plain as the moment it first saw light of day, checkered medallion grips, honest and honorable shiny metal beginning to show at the corners, now. Not at all finicky about its diet, enjoys an occasional rubdown with G-96, and has never failed to produce ballistic AND esthetic perfection.

The 19's are jealous, the 28' envy, and the Sigmas still haven't comprehended.

I am not going to argue against an HK P7 (M8 or 13).

Fixed barrel design pistols have an advantage.

I went to a police academy for reserve police officers over 20 years ago. One of the sergeants used an HP P7 M13 as his off duty weapon. We could all tell that he loved the gun.

If I ever see on at a reasonable price, I might grab it.

I have owned two 5906's and they both shoot great. Only S&W 9mm I own right now is a 3913 and its a darn good shooting 9mm.

mc:

CDNN is selling P7's about as cheap as anyone. I bought three "A" grades last year and one came NIB, and two had apparently been fired, but appaently very little.

Here's a photo of the one that came NIB.

I hate to get into a debate about he qualities of the HK P7 series of pistols vs 3rd gen Smiths, because I think it's like comparing apples to oranges.

But I honestly think that when you are talking ACCURACY alone the HK P7 will win out 99% of the time. I think if you could poll the folks who have actually fired one of both models most folks would agree with my assessment.

Now having said that, I also mentioned that my large caliber cc choice is my CS45.

No offense to those who might disagree with my opinion.

Best Wishes,

Jesse

My fist 9mm is still my most accurate. The 39-2. I also have to mention the 908 it surprises me with its accuracy for what it is.

SW1911 9mm TACK DRIVER

Is it legal to consider the new Pro Series 9mm 1911 in this thread. Lets hear from some of the new owners. I've got one coming but not for another week.

I have a 1911 9MM Pro Series and it is a tack driver. The only reason for a bad shot is lack of concentration. I posted a review with pics a few months ago so do a search. I let anyone who wants to shoot it give her a try and have made converts to S&W. My biggest convert is a dyed in the wool Sig guy who said it is the first good pistol to ever come out of the S&W factory. Said it is on his short list to buy. He was a mod over at Sigforum a few years ago.

While the P7M8 is a fine pistol, I always take the 639 to the range. It's more accurate then I am and I cna't keep form worrying about adding wear to the P7 as it is in excellent condition. I love the 639 for the range because of the way the weight helps soak up the recoil. nice and quick for follow up shots. Works well on bowling pins with hot loads too.

my 6906 is a very accurate gun. A lot better than my Ruger p89.

Then I bought a Sigma 9VE, and couldn't hit a thing with it. The trigger was too heavy to be really accurate.
Once the springs lightened up hundreds of rounds later, I noticed the darn thing hitting wherever I wanted. If it was a cigarette butt at 15 yards, it would hit it. I remember looking at my gun saying what the heck happened to my Sigma!

I bought a second allied sigma which has acceptable accuracy, about like my Ruger, but never like the first Sigma I bought.
Who would have thought a plain old inexpensive Sigma Stainless would be so accurate, more so than my 3rd generation. I do have to be concious of the trigger pull, more than a single action, but it is one heck of a barrel they installed. Must be one of a thousand.

I've owned about 10 of these delightful autos dating back to around 1970. All have been extremely accurate.

If I had to pick only one, it would be my 3913 Lady Smith followed closely by a 1971 manufacture 39-2.
