Suarez, Farnam, Yeager and their approved instructors are among those I would look to first. Realistic training, not wedded to dogma and not trying to sell you a membership or some land in Nevada.

I try and tell people interested in shooting to first go to the range and just do it. Then take the CCW class. Then I suggest training. If you can't afford training, pick up "Magpul Dynamics - Art of the Dynamic Handgun". It's a very good video with humor and good production values by top notch trainers - so most people enjoy watching it. Then I suggest sitting in or starting off in competition shoots. You can learn a lot in these. Not to mention you can do things like shoot and move, use cover, etc. After this point, I would suggest getting some top tier training - by the likes of Hackathorn, Vickers, Magpul, etc. It's a long road, but it's the journey that counts...
