Well we've had bear gun threads, zombie gun threads, truck gun threads, hiking gun thread, fishing gun threads, how 'bout a zoo gun thread?

Taking my 3 year old daughter to the World Wildlife Zoo tomorrow as part of her school's field trip. The quandry is what to carry. Especially troubling with the tiger rampage at San Francisco Zoo a few months back. Problem is a .375 H&H slung over the shoulder may alarm some of the soccer moms so I'm limited to concealed handgun carry. Besides, I don't think the zoo offers safari outfiting for the adults.

No elephants, so I don't have to worry about being trampled; however there are rhinos, big cats, various African antelope, monkees, the chance a pigmy goat in the petting zoo may go on a rampage and the common pediphile.

Is my Sig 239 in .40 S&W enough or should I upgrade to my Dan Wesson Razorback in 10mm? Have I not considered the possibility that an autoloading pistol does not offer an adequate level of ballistics for this situation and should I carry my 629 Mountain Gun?

I'm so confused...

629.
Or use a stroller with a marlin 45/70 guide gun tucked inside.
Seriously though, I dont know if you are allowed to carry in a zoo, and to ask about it here may not be the wisest thing, But if I were to take a hike where there were animals in the 200+lb range, I would bring my 629 with some nice 44 mags in it!
Peter.

Well I never carry less then a .40 S&W or a 45 acp, so that's what goes to the zoo with me. Beats the heck out of your fingernails.

Our zoo is in a not-so-nice part of town. I've never really worried about the animals inside the cages... but I do carry enough gun to handle the 200+ lb. threats in the surrounding neighborhood.

I would check your states CCW laws. Could there be a problem because of it being a school event? Be safe not sorry.

Since meat damage isn't gonna be an issue, I'd go with the 629, the best of your choices for the larger critters, and preferred pedophile prevention...

Guys I appreciate the cautions and warnings but this thread was really meant in satire. The Wildlife World Zoo is a private facility, it is not posted as a prohibited firearms zone, and Arizona statutes apply to school property not school functions.

Who cares if the soccer moms are alarmed...

Maybe I should get busy tonight and build a false bottom into her playwagon to hide the double.

Satire?

Do you mean to tell me that all the cogitation I invested in my original reply was wasted on a satirical post? Well, I'm mad now... I thought Lee's new rules were hoped to eliminate satire from this forum, although I haven't figured out how Sip's posts have been slipping by the assiduous moderaters...

That was over a year ago, believe it or not.
Just don't torment the four legged animals and you will be fine.
Watch out for Chester the molester, and other punk kids.

Well, I think that if you do not get drunk and harass the tigers the way those three morons did (I still can't believe the zoo gave those asshats any money, they should have gone to jail) you probably won't have any trouble.

I say go with the Razorback, it should handle anything you may run into.
