How is this Mossberg Shockwave legal?

It would be easy enough to add that pistol grip & cut down the barrel of a model 500, but that would be illegal.

No. Not meaning to nitpick, but it wouldn't be illegal if you took the Mossberg 500 Cruiser Breacher (shown here) with the 18.5-inch barrel and whacked it down to 14", as long as you maintained the overall length at a few hundredths of an inch over 26"...simply because it wasn't manufactured/marketed with a shoulder stock.

But, I mean, why go through all that rigamarole of cutting the barrel and magazine tube, paying for and adding the other stuff and having a DIY gun, when you can just buy the thing fully assembled/complete and be done with it. Besides, once someone starts modifying an existing gun in their home workshop, they've pretty much voided the warranty.

The only drawback I see (so far) to the new Mossberg Shockwave 590 is that once they hear about it or see one, every punk hoodlum in town's gonna want one.

As I said in an earlier post, I don't know how many my friend ordered for his store, but I'll bet they sell out in a week or less.

Yep. That's why I paid and pre-ordered mine through Bud's. I figure the price will be hard to beat from them and they'll probably get a large shipment in. Mark my words, this'll be a hot seller for 'ol Mossy.

Since the Mossberg is not meant to be shoulder fired, and Mossberg says it has a pistol grip, then how is this not a handgun? As mentioned above, a smooth bore handgun that fires shot shells falls under the NFA.

Bad guys have never obeyed laws and just down right saw off the barrels and stocks making them NFA illegal sawed off shotguns. Most likely stolen to begin with.

Great nightstand gun! Like it and at 21feet it patterns well with no-4buckshot. The birds head grip works well, not bad to shoot. Very effective housegun. Mossberg PGO non NFA other, not a Shotgun! Shockwave

Is that an actual Mossberg branded one? Did you get it recently?

In the context of this thread, (& the SB <18" rule) that would be any change to the gun from it's original factory condition. It would be easy enough to add that pistol grip & cut down the barrel of a model 500, but that would be illegal. Buy it new from the factory in the exact same dimensions, & it is legal. Clear as mud? :) In case you didn't read my first 2 posts correctly, I'll say it a third time. There are other manufacturers making them.

I posted earlier that I have a Mosberg Cruiser Breacher, shipped with pistol grip. Since it isn't a shotgun, if I cut the barrel down to 14", I am not breaking the law.

Furthermore, I can order the 14" police barrel and put it on my Cruiser Breacher, and it is legal. So if you have seen 14" Mossberg 500 pistol grip/bird's head grip firearms at gunshows, in the past, someone can easily convert them legally, did so, and put them up for sale.
