Barred Owl lands inside house

People believe sillier things.

You should have heard a woman where my dad worked go off when he pointed at a rainbow.

A Huge Black Witch moth (AKA Duppy Bat) turned up at my late ma-in-law's place way back in the 2000s. They are a Caribbean species. I did not relate the folklore attached to the species to the lady.

All this talk about owls makes me think of the scene in My Cousin Vinny where Joe Pesci and Marissa Torme are staying at the cabin in the woods... ;)

I found what looked to me to be a Great Horned Owl dead on the road. It was too messed up to be 100% sure.
Really depressed me.
I like owls.

Owls hunt mice and rabbits in the road ditches and sometimes cars come along blind them. Deer, rabbits, mice etc like those ditches in late summer because they collect any rain run off from the roads and remain greener than the surrounding area.

Occasionally I hear something calling at night outside but my hearing is too bad too discern what it is. Just a single note, kinda soft. I don't generally have my hearing aids in while sleeping.

I take my dog to the park every morning at 3am and I see an owl almost everyday, no issues yet. The desert southwest is full of owls.

At night, I hear Great Horned Owls fairly often. During the day, I occasionally see one, but they usually keep quiet. A few weeks ago we were at the club shooting on the 500 yd line with one watching us from the rear. We lived through it. He was probably wondering why we were killing paper when rodents are tastier.

I was hunting deer, in full camo except my eyes, watching a falcon diving at birds as they flew across near the tail end of a swamp. There was a nice buck I had seen during archery, and this was the first day of muzzleloaders.

I would pan my head and eyes very slowly from side to side. I had topped a smaller tree in front of me earlier, and had to climb in between the trees to get to the seat. I was in stealth mode.
About 9 AM, I was turning my head back to the right. Was holding lefty with my .50 Cal Hawken. I noticed something moving at a high speed in the upper right of my field of view toward my eyes. Had to lean my head back, groan out of whatever, and raise the barrel at it. He almost hit my eyes with his talons, which would have knocked me out of my seat. Guess the falcon saw my eyes moving and thought I was breakfast.

I have had larger owls fly into the area where I am hunting and stop to hunt squirrels, I guess. I learned from the falcon to slowly stand up and sit back down, which I did on at least three different hunts.

We had hoot owls nest in a tree close to our house. About the time the eggs were to hatch, crows came. They took the baby owls from their eggs and fed them to their own babies. I filled the crows' nest with about a half pound of high-speed pellets. After that, the crows would leave the area when I stepped outside. They stopped using that nest. I enjoy seeing birds of prey, as long as I see them first.

Why don't I see a lot of songbirds on my feeder?
