Looks like a big gun ban working its way through the NM legislature.

- magazine ban
- gas-operated semi auto ban
- also bans possession
- gun registry

Sadly NM seems to be imitating Colorado (and other states); presumably at the direction of the monied interests behind the anti-2A movement. The NM governor is predicted to sign off on whatever comes to her desk, while the Colorado governor purportedly has aspirations of some higher office so who knows what he will do. Hopefully, there will be some favorable SCOTUS rulings that will indemnify us against further infringements as the legislators in both states certainly don't seem inclined to do so.

I don’t foresee a SCOTUS ruling changing or otherwise affecting some states legislature position on gun rights……
It would appear that SCOTUS decisions are not absolute, states these days do not recognize nor help to enforce federal laws and with that, they do not comply with SCOTUS decisions. The United States is becoming a lot less united.

You got a “like” because I understand and agree with what you said …… but not because I “like” what you said…….

So to my fellow gun owners in NM, who is going to comply if passed?

Interesting question here. What happens when the general population simply refuses to comply?

What state has excess vacant jail space? Empty prison cells? Courts with too much time on their dockets already? Idle prosecutors? Police with nothing else to do?

What happens when no one responds to a court summons? No one is willing to plea bargain? Everyone demands a jury trial? Everyone appeals every conviction entered?

I suspect that everything at the courthouses would grind to a stop, complete overload of any abilities to proceed.

Plenty of friends and relatives in New Mexico. Plenty of highly independent people with little tolerance for government interference in their private lives and affairs. I suspect many might respond with very little restraint. Not everyone would be inclined to emulate Mahatma Ghandi or Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with peaceful civil disobedience. For those who aren't familiar with New Mexico history I suggest reading up on the "White Caps" during the earlier decades of New Mexico statehood.

This could be a powder keg.

New Mexico went from a blue/purple state to an ultramarine blue. Given the who runs NM top to bottom, and the fact that the same people/party keeps getting voted into office with ever increasing numbers in state .gov, those willing to fight have been diluted to the point where I don't know it'll make a difference.

There wasn't much resistance when the governor declared a state of emergency and banned guns from public property.
