Open Carry (OC) @ Walmart Today

I'm not a big fan of OC in public places like grocery stores or WM
although it is legal here in IN as far as I know if you have a permit. I
have seen a few people OCing in various places but not really very
many. As to the lack of reaction in WM from the OP the reality is that
most people today are always in a hurry and don't pay much attention
to the people around them unless there's some reason to do so. I try
to avoid going to the grocery store during the busy hours of about
5-7 pm but sometimes I do end up shopping at that time. The store is
fairly crowded and people are actually nearly jogging through the store
with their carts sometimes. Impressive. The people in general,
including those who OC, who get lots of attention are the ones who
seek attention.

Here in Michigan Open Carry is perfectly legal and OpenCarry.ORG is quite active in this state. As a result the Walmart Walk had become something of a tradition to newcomers to Open Carry.

Personally I feel that they sometimes go a bit too far in promoting Open Carry, such as one of these folks walking into a Public Library with an AR15 slung over his shoulder with a 30 round magazine in the rifle. However on a positive note they have insured that Concealed Carry isn't banned at certain public events such as the Arts, Beats, and Eats Festival.

I don't do Wallmart or open carry. Sorry open carry people. I just like to stay under the radar. It's know ones business that I am carrying. I don't have to show people I carry. I just stumble around like the old goat I am. But, although I am no professional shot or fighter, I pity the fool who gives me no alternative other than to defend myself.

And the sky didn't come crashing down...It's been my observation as well.

Most folks don't notice what's going on around them and or don't care.

* Just as a side note...
I caught myself open carrying at the pizza parlor the other day.
My jacket had crawled up over my holstered sidearm.
No one noticed or cared, no one called the police, it was a non-event.

I saw a guy open carrying at WalMart last night, non issue.

The guy was maybe in his early 60's, wearing a leather jacket with an elastic hem at the waist. The hem was tucked behind the gun like maybe he didn't know his gun was even showing and the bulk of his jacket was sitting on top of the gun.

My only comment (to my wife) was that if he needed that gun his was going to have to move about half of that jacket to get to it

His circus, his monkeys

I saw my 1st open carry a in Cedar Park TX few days ago.Twas a young guy on a Harley.

I'm not a big fan of open carry or guns on campuses.

The local news had a piece on the people open carrying in Austin at SXSW before the presidents arrival last week.

So can we assume that you're not a big fan of OC or guns on campuses, police officers included? Or, you just want police officers to be able to OC and carry on campus, but not normal law abiding people who want the choice of protecting themselves?

Oh, a lot of LEOs and ex-LEOs feel/think that way....

As a Lawman myself, I know the only reason I carry a sidearm
is to defend myself while enforcing the statues and it's jest handy.

Every man ought to be able and ready to cover the
ground he stands on and defend himself and family alike.

We are all created equal and a tin badge makes one not
one tittle greater in stature among his fellow man.

But, some think so......;):D

Very well said, sir. Thanks for speaking honestly and articulately about this important concept.

Why are you "not a big fan" of guns on campuses?

Do you believe that people at colleges don't need guns "because the police will protect them"... like at VA Tech?

We all know that 'gun free zones' equal 'free fire zones' for those that would do us harm.

Campus concealed carry will save lives of our young adults,
just because your a student, you should not be required to
give up your inalienable right to defend one's self.

When the sane are armed....the insane get off fewer shots.

I'm all for oc being legal. I occasionally do it. It's all about knowing one's surroundings. I used to make a fairly regular trip through relatively rural parts of Indiana, I generally carry outside the waistband with a cover garment (jacket or open button-up depending on the weather). I'll usually take my cover garment off while I'm driving, and if I'm stopping off in say, Rockville, I really won't bother putting it back on if I'm just running in for the bathroom and a beverage. The locals don't seem to mind there. If I were say, in Bloomington, I know to make sure my weapon goes unseen. I wish OC were more acceptable, because I find it more comfortable, but I'm not the type that likes unwanted attention, so I carry discreetly.

As a general rule,
I don't concern myself with how other folks carry their personal protection.
If they open carry or conceal carry or don't carry anything at all.

But, I do enjoy the heck out of these type of threads,
we kinda get to know one another on a more personal level.

I see the title, I know where it's all gonna head...mostly down hill.

But, I can't help but open it up....Kinda like walkin around the corral
and kickin a pile of horse manure just to see what's inside. ;):D

Good Day
