just moved to the rotten apple about a month ago, from las vegas. now i have a great opportunity to move to morgantown w, virginia. did a lot of research on the area, sounds beautiful and small, just what im looking for. question is has anyone been there or lived in any of the surrounding areas? girlfriend has a great career advancement as well there. i had enough of the rotten apple, laws reallt suck here, im surprised they let you have a sharpened pencil here, yeah i knew the laws were awful before i came, but i needed to go for specific reasons. any advice offered on the morgantown area is welcomed

All I know is, some of the most beautiful scenery around. You have to love mountans, and windy roads. The people I have known from there are all down to earth and friendly.

On balance, WV is a pretty good place to live. That area is more like Pennsylvania and Maryland than a lot of the rest of the state, though.

Great hunting, fishing, skiing, lot's of remote areas to get away in - pretty good gun laws. Politicians . . . well, every state has them and not too many are worth bragging about. Worst thing is a lot transplants from places like the D.C. area move here to get "out in the country" but they bring their politics and attitudes with them. But they construct enclaves and stay among their own kind for the most part since we've been invaded before and have managed to maintain our independence. :D

It's in an area where a couple of hours drive time will get you from wilderness to the big city, whatever your fancy.

I have a good friend who lives there, she loves it.

And, as long as Bob Byrd lives, you can drive your four-wheeler on the road. Wouldn't want a man not to be able to buy beer just because he doesn't have a license, now would we?

I live there now, we just had a MountainFest that pulled in 65,000 bikes and the number is from the paper. You have a indoor range here, rails to trails.Low crime rate, deer everywhere. I'm working at one of the power houses here. You have Cass RailRoad 3 hours away, with a bunch of other state parks. Plus what young men what, woman everywhere. It is a great town with alot of history.

Two requirements to live in Morgantown, West Virginia: less than a full set of teeth and a couple couches to burn. Plus an abiding hatred for all things Maryland!

Remember, the toothbrush was invented in West Virginia; anywhere else and they would've called it a teethbrush.

Seriously, if you've lived in Las Vegas and New York City and enjoyed any minute of it you'll likely jump off a bridge after a day in Morgantown.

Be safe.

Well, Morgantown is a fine place; but keep in mind you'll be a foreigner as long as you live there. If you're not from there, you're either up to no good, or you need some help. But they tolerate strangers pretty well in greater metropolitan Morgantown - just don't try to get along with that ACK-sayent of your'n more than six miles out of town.

i decided ill have a couple of my front teeth removed and ill hire a language coach to get rid of my accent and then ill be able to fit in. seriously for what i paid 450000 for a house in vegas i can get a mansion for in morgantown. plus the town is a lot smaller and i thought it would have been a friendly place. probably going to do it anyway. as i get older im finding myself less tolerant for the hussle and bussle.

Aww . . . don't be put off by a Maryland Yankee, they're just envious :D

Don't let these yahoo's fool ya. I grew up here in WV (about 30 miles from Morgantown). I have lived in Montana (nice), Germany (Army), Oklahoma (craphole), Panama (craphole doubled), and Arkansas (Deliverance!!!). There is NO place on earth I would rather live. WV has it all. Even better, most of the people who grew up here are good, hardworking, GOD fearing, country loving American's. If you break down along the road, people here will ACTUALLY stop and help. Except for some of the transplants we get from bigger cities, this state is truly ALMOST HEAVEN.

ok guys, thanks for the vote of confidence again. i lived in a small town in northern ca. for 12 years, absolutely love the small town atmosphere, even considering i worked for the sheriffs dept all was well

Glad you have a sense of humor.

You'll find me about an hour east of your new home; on the more civilized end of I-68. Let me know when you arrive and if I am feeling brave and frisky we'll meet for a beer. Mid-way, before the border crossing, of course. :)

Be safe.

Morgantown is one of our more scenic places, you'll be near snow shoe ski resort and the better fishing spots in the state.Another plus is the hunting it's better there as well.Don't get me wrong i love WV as a whole (born here)but we do have our sweeter spots.
