I got my M&P15r out last night and was just checking it out. I still haven't shot it. I tried to move the safety from fire to safe and it would not go. What are the chances that the detent was installed backwards? Could that cause it? Maybe too much spring tension on the detent? I e-mailed S&W to see what they say. Anybody had one like this?

Was the bolt 'cocked'? The hammer needs to be engaged with the trigger and disconnector for the safety to swing.

I'm pretty sure I pulled the charging handle and cocked it. Now you're making me second guess. I'm gonna go get that dude back out and make sure.

. Wouldn't be so bad If I hadn't e-mailed the factory.

Easy slip-up to make with a new weapon. Safetyminded instincts suggest not to cock it until your ready to fire. You were in a house not the range. I work at the factory in the range.....we test every safety before accepting.

Well, when you see the guy that decided to make a 5.45X39 upper, tell him I said preeshate it. The only thing that would make me like it more: if it was a lefty like my Stag.

Sorry...the company at this time has decided not to go with that option at this time. Just make sure to oil your chamber occasionally with the steel cases and sometimes corrosive powder/primers....they tend to stick in the 5.45
