Glock owners...

I haven't done any research on Glocks because I have found much better info on this forum than from manufacture ads.

My question is how much of the guns are made of steel? The reason I ask is that I want a gun that can withstand a lot of moisture...like in the shower.
I guess that sounds kinda goofy but the crack head population grows a little more every day around here. I want something my wife can take in the shower with her when I'm not here.
There has been an increase in B&E's and I don't like the thought of her (or me!) being in a compromising position without a gun within reach.

Barrel and slide. Mags have a metal sleeve. Tenifer coating (I think they have changed it somewhat on the newest generation) is one of the toughest for this type of gun.

From the torture testing info and videos I've seen you could probably leave them in a bucket of water next to the shower and just shake the water out when you need to use them. Not something you would really want to do, but I guess as far as plastic pistols that can withstand moisture Glocks are right there at the front of the race.

I have a model 23 (.40 cal). It's my carry gun.

But my heart still belongs to my S&W revolvers.

Yeah, I'm not crazy about the thoughts of a plastic gun, but in the situation I want it for it seemed like the logical choice.
Any suggestions on a used model to be looking for? You said they may have changed the coating on the new generation...for the good or for cuttin' corners?

BTW...does the number, such as G19 or G23 have anything to do with the caliber or does it just go up a number with every new production year? I guess these sound like stupid questions, but I know absolutely nothing about a Glock.

Glock numbers confuse me. The first one, I think, was the Glock 17. Full size 9mm, 17 round mag. The 19 is a tad smaller frame, still 9mm, but has a 15 round mag. I like my G19, but I've never taken it in the shower.

My wife has a 2 way webcam set up in various rooms in our house, including the shower....if anyone breaks in, her businessman "friend" in Germany can alert her to the danger.

I like S&W or I guess I wouldn't be here but my arsenal don't stop with them. Funny how everyone made fun of Glock's "plastic". Now just about every manufacturer, if not all, makes them.

Can't really go wrong with a Glock 20 (10mm I think). As much as I protest Glocks, I might be the owner of one soon

If memory serves, glocks are 83% steel. This came out back in '87 when all the media was going nuts about guns that go through metal detectors and such.

Just a heads-up, The Beretta Forum Classifieds has some police trade-ins listed $340 to $400 with one mag. Several models mostly 2nd generation. Might have to go down a page or two. Seller is the founder or one of the founders of that forum. I have no connection to the sale but i do have one of the 1st generation Mod 17s on the way

Seems that CDNN and others have had some used Glocks. I think many were 17's. The prices have not been bad and I would not worry about getting one wet.
