Walking in the snow, especially at dusk or dawn. I don't get to do that much around here, so I don't get tired of it. Big gun shows, I don't mind the crowd so much, even if I'm not looking to buy, it's the thrill of the hunt. Even if the prices are too high. Only in America.

As I've gotten older, I'm finding happiness in ways I always took for granted. Sometimes the simple things are the happiest. My mini Doxie curling up on my lap or snuggling up next to me in bed at night; watching the squirrels playing in the yard; listening to the birds. Curling up in bed with a good book. I think one of the most peaceful times I can remember was one deer season in the Michigan woods. I sat against a tree, appreciating the silence. Everything was brown. Then a heavy wet snow started to fall. As I sat there, everything turned to white. It was so pretty and peaceful. And then there's always........key lime pie!

A rainy day spent inside with my fellas.
A nice meal out with my husband.
When my whole family gets together for a cookout or holiday.
Seeing the looks of satisfaction after feeding someone a good, hot meal.
Unexpectedly hearing from long lost friends or relatives.
One on one time with my son. And the fact that he stills makes the time for me.
Lunch or dinner with "the girls".
A long, quiet car ride holding hands with my sweetie, like we did when we were dating.
Going down to the river at night just to sit and watch the barges go by.

Fall & winter are my favorite times of the year (aside from the holidays). It's the evening and the morning of the year. COme the fall, The day's work is done, I can relax and enjoy outside in nice weather. Fishing in the marsh is the best in the fall, duck hunting....cold nights at home cooking a gumbo with the wife. Come January, it's time to plan great things for the coming year-it's like that quiet time in the morning where the day is fresh and waiting-nobody has messed it up yet and you feel bulletproof. This time of the year it just seems as if someone has pulled the plug and I finally get to start to deflate a bit. October 15th is the demarcation point as that is when my taxes are done and I can begin the decompression. It's pretty much downhill from here for the rest of the year-tie up loose ends, one big trial left to go and plenty of duck hunting and fishing to look forward to.

I have always liked to be on the move whether flying, driveing or rideing.
I like trips to anywhere, but cant afford it all the time. The best was years ago flying my light planes, rideing my motorcycles, now its rideing our atv. I used to be a heavy gambler but now have no income besides retirement and cant afford to lose. I know I am suppose to be saying romantic stuff like hunting, camping etc here. The truth is I probley done more of it in the past than most average people will ever do in their lives. Both my ex and my present wife wont eat bambi, so I got away from it. I dont need the head trip of killing game, done it in the past, got every type gun to do it again if need be. Always enjoyed just being out there and it was a good excuse to go.
I do miss my large extended family from years ago, but almost all are dead, and I live 2,000 miles away.

Little things. Last night I took my 17 year old son and his girlfriend out to eat. After we finished we went by a church that was selling pumpkins and bought a couple for them to carve. Next we bought a kit with some templates and carving tools. Then we went home and they carved their pumpkins. It was a lot of fun. The pumpkins came out pretty good also.
