Hello,
I have heard and read great things about this gun. Before I pull the trigger on this new toy, I was wondering if there are certain serial numbers that I should avoid or look for? Has S&W taken care of these known issues and have they assigned certain SN's that will tell me if its a newer gun revision were they have worked all the bugs out before it left S&W?

DTE3...

I put 250 rounds through it as a test a few months ago. Minor FTE and FTL with the round lodged in the mag. May have been loading problems......Have to wait for Christmas AM for more "TESTS".

i have read about other dte3 owners with issues as well. Luckily I can always send it in to sw but I much rather pick out a good one right off the bat.

Mine is a DTE3*** and had issues. Sent back to S&W for repair. 500+ rounds since getting it back. All okay now.

I have one with serial # dsz and had one out of 25 stuck in the magazine!

HELP ME SLEEP TONIGHT!

Anyone with a DTE3...number that did NOT make a trip back to S&W?

DTM57XX had issues ejecting and feeding. Adjusted ejector and stopped using Remington ammo. Now it shoots flawlessly. I'm thinking of sending it back to S&W anyway since they're returning it with 2 free mags...

Don't fret iflyfish. :) Your new rifle is likely just fine, and if not no problem.

Now if you do have a problem, then just try what this thread shows you how to do.

M&P 15-22 (problems and fixes)

This one too. :)

M&P 15-22 Repair thread for FTE.

When all else fails, S&W customer service has proven how great they are, time and time again. So don't worry now. :D

I obsess on something then………. I obsess on the obsession.

I’m pretty sure I’m OK because of the pre-Christmas test. But I have a lot of ammo ready to burn and hate to have to wait for the gun to make the trip to Smith.

But as always, after a month or so, I’ll start to obsess on the next inanimate object.

mines a dthxxx and its awesome. i've ran a dozen different types of ammo through it with no problems at all... hope this helps a bit..

Ditto here...DTH****

Has been through at least 1500 rds so far with only one hiccup which I attributed to a hastily loaded mag. Maybe the DTH's were sent out with the latest tweaks from S&W?

I know that in January the threaded barrel version will be avail. but i dont know if i can wait that long. I know that in the long run it will be worth it. I keep telling myself that this is just a training tool and who cares if the barrel is not threaded, but it would still be nice to see a birdcage up front.

wow, there are more out there just like me. Its a harsh sickness dude. I know...

Mine also had a serial number of DTE3*** and it's currently taking a FedEx ride. Not too worried about it right now, because I'm sure S&W will get it fixed up for me. Just not fun having to send a new rifle back like that.

I'm hoping it arrives before I leave town for the holidays. In my letter, I asked S&W to ship it back to Academy, but the guy at Academy said they would only ship it back to me. Went into Academy yesterday and talked to a different guy to find out what day it actually shipped out and he said S&W would return it to Academy. So I'm not even sure where it's going to be shipped back. I'm going to give it a few more days to get in the system at S&W and I'll just give them a call I guess.

Really looking forward to getting it back though. It was really fun to shoot when it worked right. :)

Bought mine on 11/27/09,extractor came out on the "KABOOM" 11/28/09, sent back to S&W on Tue.12/01/09, they received it on Fri 12/04/09.
S/N DTE2XXX.
Will update when I get it back.

what? there's a magazine issue too? what's that about?

Round hangs in the magazine. Have to pry out. There's pictures around here somewhere.

I asked some here who got their rifle back from S&W after repairs with broken extractors and such (I have not sent mine in) if they still had issues with rounds hanging in the magazine, they said yes.

Mine is a DTA10## and after about 1K rounds using 8 or 9 brands/types of ammo, it continues to function well. There has been 2 or 3 FTF and I'm sure that was me (as it was in the early days of ownership).
