OK I have a sigma 40VE non AF and I really want to black out the slide any ideas other than disassemble and spray paint if that's my only option I will live with the stainless slide

I would use the brownells spray on and bake coatings. Just find a cheap convection oven at a garage sale or thrift store and go for it. I have seen the results and they are amazing if you take the time to prep it correctly.

I also have been exploring blackening the slide of my SW40VE.
I tried a product from Caswell Plating called "Stainless Steel Blackener 370" (gel). It does not work. Wasted $30.
I am looking into a Moly resin product from John Norrell Arms. I have used it on an aluminum receiver. One needs to sandblast the piece with aluminum oxide (60-90 grit), paint with a pen airbrush, and bake. If one takes good care of the preparation, one gets very good results. The website has thorough instructions. Do a search.

Send it off and have it refinished with duracoat or ceracoat. I had a Makarov coated in stain black a few years ago and it still looks good. The pic below is not a Sigma, but it does have a stainless steal slide and has been coated in duracoat. Don't expect it to be as durable as Melonite but with care it will last. Since you're only sending in the slide shipping is easy. Cost for a bare slide usually runs around $50.

I polished the slide of one of my sigmas and didn't like the look so I decided to go the duracoat route. I am very happy with the way it turned out and it was only $40 plus $7 for return shipping. I sent it to goldenloki.com and the turn around was 3-4 weeks.
