What do you like to keep things concealed? Other than a coat, that is.

Yes I'm talking about fashion here on the S-W form. My spouse has only one issue with my carrying, and that is the necessary steps to keep the darn things out of sight. Fall, winter and spring are rather easy, since even on the warmer days a coat or vest will do the job, but summer brings a whole new set of challenges. I have tried with varying degrees of success the following:

Hockey, base ball and soccer jerseys;

Hawaiian Shirts (untucked);

Sport/suit coat (gotta work some time) though these are the last things I want on when out of the office;

Any thought, tips ideas, etc..... I'm thinking this might lead to a new TV series "What Not to Wear When You Carry"

There has got to be a clever joke to answer that question... I can't think of one, but I am sure someone will soon!

Seriously, I can usually get by with untucked button down or polo shirts when carrying my Lightweight Commander or N frame Smith. A good belt and holster are key.

Well first what do you carry. A S&W model 36 fits nicely on an ankle holster but a Kimber 1911 not so much. A model 36 or similar J frame can fit undetected in a pants pocket if its the right style pants pocket. I have a Keltec .380 and in dress pants I put it in the change pocket inside the pants pocket itself and it fits just fine and is unoticable. I carry a Sigma and just got a small "jakslide holster for it, and it conceals well under a t-shirt or a Hawaiian style shirt.

Some people carry one gun no matter what. I carry based on what Im wearing, where Im going and what I will be doing. Lots of times I take two guns when I go to the bank because we have had so many bank take over style robberies. I dont go to the bank much. It is hot here and shorts are not conducive to ankle holsters.....so again we need to know what you carry and your preferred sytle of carry...hip, ankle, appendix, cross draw, shoulder holster etc.

Work: suit and tie galco COP series...M9 (Beretta 92 FS) or M11 (Sig P228)

Off duty: jeans or shorts and 5.11 shirts or short sleeve collared shirt short sleeve with Blackhawk or Galco holsters, Sig P229 E2, Sig P250, S&W 642

Hawaiian shirts are my drinking shirts....can't get any uglier no matter what you spill :)

A pattern on the cover garment seems to help hide bulges. I don't know if the pattern distracts the viewer or if it conceals shadows better.

I try to taylor the gun to the cover up as well.... in order of size Beretta .25; S-W J frame .38; Springfield XD .40 3"; Kimber CDP 4".

You're right I did open myself up to some "friendly fire" on the subject....

Tucked polo shirt.

I only carry either a full sized auto in a tuckable IWB or a 2" Model 36 in a pocket holster in my front pocket.

I never carry OWB or wear extra cover garments.

Depending on the hideousness of the Hawaiian shirt, a firearm might not be needed to keep bad guys at bay.

PS: Quality lightweight cargo shorts are excellent for hot weather carry.

This applies to me and is my way of thinking. I am from the old school where men kept their shirts tucked in. Also it is too hot around here this time of year to wear any type of coat, jacket, windbreaker or vest. Just to be clear, I am a grown man and graduated to full length britches many years ago. My legs are ugly and best kept covered. I refuse to walk around looking like a Yankee tourist wearing a shirt outside the short pants.

I wear an IWB holster with a shirt neatly tucked around the belt loops. Inside the holster will be a five inch 1911. In the event I do not use the IWB holster, I just carry the gun under the shirt in a mexican carry.

I carry my N frame in a pancake holster, but I really like IWB so much better. It hides better when you sit down, or reach for something on the top shelf, or clean the truck windshield, or... you get the point. IMHO, IWB is the way to go for concealment.

Lol, oldman45 referenced both Yankee tourists and "short pants"... gotta respect that!

Redhead Fulton Cargo pants from Bass Pro Shops. Heavy cotton in the usual colors. Huge pockets that can comfortably conceal either a compact 9 3rd gen., a J-frame or a K-frame snubby.
And I hate velcro closures on pockets. These have proper buttons. Yes, I leave the loaded one unbuttoned.

T-shirt, Polo, Button down. Tucked, untucked...it doesn't matter.

The main thing is having a good holster and a good belt.

I made my own IWB holster that can be worn with an untucked shirt or a tucked in shirt.

I've been wearing vests for years, so no one thinks anything of it when they see me in one. If I'm just ducking over to a store .. I'll usually take my 36 in an IWB that'll fit under a heavy t shirt. If I'm taking my 1 auto .. or a .357 I wear the vest.

Not having to dress to impress at this stage of my life, so I get by quite well with untucked loose-fitting shirts over a full-size 1911 in a pancake-style holster. Our summer days frequently go over 100 degrees so jackets and vests of any kind are out of the question. Full-cut oxford button-down shirts worn untucked over blue jeans or khakis will get me into just about anyplace without notice.

The shirts can also be worn unbuttoned and open in the front over a t-shirt and this works pretty well, too.

Today's more casual attire makes discreet concealed carry much easier than the fashions of the 70's and 80's.

I was going to say, "in my purse" but I might get kick off the forum.
Hot weather I find a tucked T-shirt with a light weight vest works well.
I also like jeans with a un-tucked sport shirt.

Let's see photos of the guys wearing untucked shirts. Most mature males with untucked shirts have expanded girth waists.

Not being critical about it since I suffer from the same condition and know well how difficult it can be to keep a shirt tucked in, even at best. I also know that public perception of an untucked shirt is not as favorable as a well dressed male with good dress habits.

I correct this condition with the aid of an Instant Tailor. Comfortable and it works. Also keeps the weight of my gun from making my pants sag.

My wardrobe has NEVER changed to facilitate CCW.

Am visiting San Diego for a few days and wearing shorts and polo shirts exclusively. My 642 and Remora IWB holster serve quite well.

For the record, have been everywhere from the San Diego County Fair (it's more than you would ever think!), to Petco Park, to Torrey Pines Golf Course, to the Gaslamp District, to the USS Midway.

No worries/problems anywhere. A Remora with a j-frame can be rendered absolutely invisible.

Be safe.

Is concealed carry legal in that area?
