There's lots of talk about seven and eight pound trigger pulls, and indeed the specs from S&W do say seven pounds. I know from reading a lot here that one of the first mods suggested is to replace the blue springs with yellow ones from JP. May I suggest that before you do, take the time and effort to actually measure the trigger pull on your particular firearm. Don't guess or use a jug or water or some such non-accurate nonsense. If a friend doesn't have a digital scale you can use, virtually every gunsmith (if not decent gun shop) will have one. And measure at the same point on the trigger every time! It DOES make a difference.

Mine (S/N DVW, purchased late December) measured between 5 lbs, 2 oz and 6 lbs, 2 oz, as measured on a Lyman Digital Trigger Pull Scale. The average for ten pulls was 5 lbs 9 oz.. In reality, this isn't bad for a firearm in this price range.

Well, hoping to drop the pull to the 3.5 pound range, I bought the yellow springs and put them in this afternoon. I also took the time to polish the mating surfaces with Flitz and lube them.

Net result ... a low of 4 lbs, 4 oz and a high of 5 lbs, 10 oz, for a ten-pull average of 4 lbs, 10 oz - roughly a ONE POUND reduction.

I'll wait to pass final judgement of the worth of the new springs after I've had a chance to put a couple of hundred rounds down range, but at this point, it doesn't appear to be worth it.

My point is, before doing anything to the FCG, get an accurate trigger pull measurement; you may change your mind about the new springs.

So you are saying $10 isn't worth it to reduce the pull by ~20%?

For a reduction of one pound from five something to four something, not particularly to me. If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't bother. As I said, I'll make a final determination after I've put a couple of hundred rounds through it.

If the new springs had brought it down below four on a consistent basis, probably. If you look at JP's web site, they say the 3.5 lb claim is only good if you upgrade to their trigger and hammer. Otherwise it's 4.5 pounds, with is right what I wound up with.

I really doubt that the majority of newby 15-22 owners here have any accurate measure of the trigger pull before the spring replacement - all they know is it "feels" lighter. I also think most people see the "seven pound" figure in S&W's specs and say "wow, I cut the trigger pull in half", when in reality the last year's production has about 5.5 lbs, like mine did.

As with all things, it's whatever you own personal level of acceptance is.

The issue that I had was before the lighter springs my trigger was heavy, but broke clean. The springs were keeping the sear/trigger static until I hit the right amount of pressure.

After the springs the reduced pressure would allow the sear to slip before the break, introducing creep into the trigger pull.

So it's probably lighter by half, but has a gritty creep.

I'v only dry fired it enough to measure the trigger pull plus a couple more, so I don't really know how smooth the pull is going to turn out to be. I did polish the mating surfaces, lightly, with Flitz and a Dremel on low speed. It will be next week before I have a chance to get to the range.

Installed JP yellows on my 15-22 last weekend and it's made a noticeable, if not groundbreaking (positive) difference. This is with the stock trigger at present, but I'm waiting on a RRA NM2 kit that I'd ordered a while ago...

Personally, I found that for the negligible cost of the spring set, it was worth it simply for having a practical reason for me to strip and learn the FCG on my rifle :)

i switched over to the jp yellows just to get something better. installed yesterday a jard adjustable trigger kit. light enough to work with my slidefire and it just feels so awesome. got it for 160 even. it pays to have buddies in the gun buisness

I bought the JP yellow springs a few months back, installed them according to the instructions, did the polishing and then went to the range. My 15-22 did not like this set up, had more miss fires than with the orginal springs. So if there is anyone out here who would like to try the JP yellow spring set up, mine are up for sale
$12.00 shipped. PM me.

did you install just the trigger spring or all the springs in the kit

cal

i didnt polish any surfaces, just added both yellow springs and shot 500 rounds w/o any problems

I just did a very light polish to my FCG and changed all the springs to kit. Only ran 150 or so rounds through it to function test. Noticeably lighter and smoother.... no appreciable creep in my FCG. I'll be running it through it's paces this coming weekend at a Tac rifle match with dynamic movement so that will be the test. I run CCI Blazer 40g ammo, which has proven to be very reliable to me... on my 3rd case of 5000 rounds.

it's been a while since i dug through the threads to set up mine ....
but what i remember is all you want to install is the main trigger spring to get the low pull weight ( mine is like this), if creep i a problem there is an allan key mod to adjust.

luck

Thnx cal, will give it a try;)

Allen creep mod-done
Polishing trigger- done
JP yellow springs- done
Performs flawlessly so far, 500+ rds.
It is all worth the little time and minimal investment.
Hope all my wall street investments worked that well. :D

So what ammo were you using RedBaron? I did all these mods to mine except the Allen creep mod and had to many FTF's so I went back to the orginal springs, now I find out I should have just changed out the trigger spring! I am so confused right now I'm ready to just spring for a complete drop in FCG!

I ran my rifle in a local tac rifle match today...actually me and my buddy did... 6 stages...220 rounds minimum each... thats 440 total. Not a single problem, pulling the trigger at rapid sucession. Ammo was CCI Blazer 40g.

Has anyone tried to replace the trigger group? I have a new lower (waiting to find an upper) that has a decent feeling trigger, that I could cannibalize until I get the rest of the gun, or I might upgrade that trigger any way down the road....
