jamming M&P 15-22

Most of the comments I read about Feds are positive. OTOH, lots of negatives about Rems. Not just re. 15-22s, but many firearms as well.

Personally, if it said Rem on it I wouldn't use it if it was given to me for free. I can live with a "few" duds, but 15% duds are unacceptable and even one hangfire is enough to make me talk trash for years!

Well, it was the ammo. changed to blazer brand and not a single jam. Man this is a fun little shooting gun.

I was (1) simply correcting an oft-repeated mis-quote of the manual and (2) stating the FACT that many shooters here do use Remingtons without problems.

Don't know what your problem is.

His problem was probably the same as mine was when you corrected my word usage regarding what the manual says about Remmington ammo.

No said 'and I quote', they just referenced the manual and they way it disfavors the Remmington golden bullets. Period.

I'll leave splitting hairs to the Beautician across the street.

Every one got a manual with their 15-22 and they can break it out on their own if they want it in verbatim.

I'm in the crowd, mostly likely the largest crowd ever, on the face of the planet, that won't get any more golden bullets. I have over a dozen 22's, rifle and pistols, and only the Remington 597 got along with them, albeit marginally at best.

I don't disagree with this statement at all. That would be my first guess, as well. I seldom used them in a semi-auto, but I shot a lot of it back in the 70s in revolvers and bolt actions and never had a problem with performance. Today's production may be another matter altogether, but that does not negate the fact that many folks posting here indicate it functions fine for them.

As for splitting hairs about the wording in the manual, yea, I do that. I was taught to be accurate when quoting and try very hard to do so, especially when the mis-quote changes the meaning of a statement. Much of the mis-information on the Internet comes from inaccurate information that gets accepted as fact because no one challenges it. I try to correct that, especially for people who are new to whatever the subject is. If more of it was done, we wouldn't have people calling bullets "tips" or "heads", calling plated bullets "jacketed" and similar nonsense that has become popular over the last few years.

I wondered that myself. Comparing the two rounds they visually look exactly the same. Federal's web site shows exactly the same velocity, energy, etc.

The fed champion blue box ammo I have are hollow points. The red box ammo is not.

Your welcome. I thought they were the same too till I opened the box last month. I had it for about a year and didnt know, and it even says hollow points on the box I have but I dont remember reading it .

I have the slidefire stock; 50 Round drum ect on mine and remington thunderbolt 40 grain non plated round nose bullets work flawlessly. CCI mini mags tend to have light primer strikes. 500 round for around $20 too.

Watch the vid on loading. And watch the rim placement. The rim of every round you put in should go in front of the previous. If not the bolt will have to pull the top rounds rim over the one under it. Can cause nosediving of top round and cause jams.

I took my 15-22 out to the range for the first time yesterday. I had three hangups in 200 CCI mini-mag rounds. It just may have been the way I loaded the mag. I'll have to be more diligent about this rim in front of rim loading. That may have been the problem. Taking it out again next Monday...we'll see what happens.

I just rack the mag follower up and down every couple of rounds. Making sure the exposed round stays tilted up 10-20 degrees. The drum feeds kind of straight so its much more fool proof to load.

Very disappointed !!

I took my new ar15-22 out of the box yesterday and was looking forward to doing some serious plinking to my dismay. The gun jammed 3 times on the first clip. Smith & Wesson should be aware of this problem after reading so much about the problem. I wish I had done some research before buying this gun. After paying so much for a gun from a well known manufacturing company I would have never dreamed there would be any problems with the gun. I'm going to try to bend the extractor in like some have mentioned but I don't like it at all.

Most of us have been there too. New rifles and magazines need breaking in.

Did you thoroughly clean the rifle before shooting it?

Are you sure the rounds were staggered properly? This was my biggest hurdle/fault. pull the follower down far enough to load 1 and only 1 round at a time.

Did you perhaps over lubricate the bolt?

If all else fails, I'll take the *** off your hands... Cheap....

I oiled the bolt well. I checked the extractor and it seems to be aligned fine without bending any. I racked the magazine several times to make sure shells were staggered good. I fired about ten shots slowly and the rapid fired the last 15. Everything worked fine. Problem solved. I think the magazine was the main problem. It works, that's all that matters to me

I oiled the bolt well.

For future reference, only the rails the bolt slides on need oiling and only very little at that. Applying lots of oil on the bolt body will do nothing but attract crud and gunk up your action, which can lead to problems.
