1St Post..."I'll Take It"

I will always go with the first I'll take it with no conditions as long as the rules allow it. Lot's of tire kickers and request for more pictures out there. Seller's choice.

How can anyone not understand, "I'll take it."?

TAKE IT

Well, if you want your jaws to really get frosted, try being a first, 'I'll take it' only to drive 20 miles home and find out someone offered more money and got it. It DOES happen. Also, just how many photos do you have to see? Try playing 60 questions and then having to start all over with another buyer. Yeah, that happens as well. :)

I've bought 3 guns on this (really great!) forum all by just happening to get the first "I'll take it" on record. I've been beaten many times. The whole process reminds me of pigeons feeding but I can't think of a better way to do it. Just gotta be ready to "peck" fast!

I can understand both sides. But selling anything out from under a person that has a legitimate question is wrong. At work if a customer has a question, I answer it to the best of my ability. If the next customer inline flashes a wad of cash, he still has to wait his turn. The internet should not be different.

If a seller correctly and adequately describes his item, then there shouldn't be many questions if any.

I've sold many guns on a local gun trading forum. The first to PM is the first in line and has first shot. Depending on the question, he's still first in line until I detemine that he's serious or just kicking the tires.

Just because you sell something online means that you can sit back and be lazy while you wait for the "perfect" buyer. Cause there ain't no such thing.

IMHO, there shouldn't be any "I'll Take It" allowed. Everything should be done through a PM. You could simply post "PM sent". Then you can look through your PM's in order and respond in order. It ain't that hard.

Could be worse. Last week I spoke with a guy about meeting to buy a couple 22 rifles. He sent me a text message on Sunday saying he could meet me on Monday night. Called and confirmed on Monday afternoon, set up a meeting place closer to where he lived--which meant driving 45 minutes the opposite way from my house. Tried calling him, just got cell phone, gave him 20 minutes when I got to the location--would even answer his phone and never returned my messages. Had plenty of time to calm down on the hour-and-a-half drive home.

The week before, I posted the first reply that I would like to buy item he had for sale, got beat to it by someone else on another forum I guess, as nobody on the forum had posted, but he PM'd that they were already sold.

Been on the other end on another board (about guns... in California ;))... I posted the first "I'll take it!"

Next post from the seller was "sold to such & such." (A n00b with about 10 posts). Supposedly his PM trumped my public "I'll take it."

Meh... they're running an auction board. So be it.

I agree it can be frustrating. I happened along a beautiful CS1 not too long ago on this forum. The seller did not post pictures but rather said e-mail for pictures. I posted "I'll take it pending looking at pics" and e-mailed him. When I came back to the computer a few minutes later, someone had posted an more definite "I'll take it", and it was already sold to him. I was pretty irritated that the pics couldn't have been posted on the forum or a link. (pics were lovely by the way...oh well).

That's just wrong. If someone states an interest in an item, the next person should say "I'll take it if first offer falls through". Frustrating. Sorry you missed out!

For me it's pretty simple.

No photos, I don't contact the seller.

Only a few posts? I don't contact the seller. Let someone else be the guinea pig. (And, you'll notice, at least I think you will, that most of the problems in the feedback section are with or between posters with only a few posts).

See something I am interested in with photos and the poster has been here for a while? Search the feedback section for his user name-see what others have said.

No feedback? Read his prior posts. All of them generally, and one gets an idea of what kind of guy (or gal) the seller is.

After that, if I feel confident about the deal, contact the seller with an offer or post an "I'll take it!" on the thread.

So far, these little rules for my own behavior have served me well, but YMMV.

Exactly. A lot of the backpacking forums work like that. Post "pm sent", and you're first in line. Get rid of "I'll take it."

Expressing interest or "I'll take it if..." does not equal "I'll take it!"

You're right, if the goal is to sell the item to whoever waves the cash first. But is it wrong to want to ask the seller a question first? Should someone else be allowed to slip in when you're just making sure, for example, that something will work with your gun?

Snooze

As in "ya snooze ya loose". Been there, done that, have the Tshirt. Looking for sandals to match. :D

It has been mentioned here before, especially when a well known reseller was draining the cream of the crop from the board, "the seller can sell to whoever he wants, no one gets "rights" to anything as a buyer".

It hurts when it happens, but it is all just stuff, no life and death dealings going on here.

Many sellers do post their terms of sale, although not required, it is nice to see.

My experience has been a little different. I find when I start to ask direct questions about the condition (asking for a picture to confirm) or the first three digits of the serial number the gun is amazingly sold. If it happened just once, I would say someone bought the gun. But when it becomes fairly predictable based on how the ad is written and the reluctance to supply info you know that there is more at work than someone else scooping you.

Nothing wrong at all. It's not even a written rule to my knowlege. As the mod said, "Seller sets the rules." Some people actually specify "First posted I'll take , takes it."

If somebody does sell an item out from under an "I'll take it" through PM, there is always gonna be some cynical *** like myself who will figure the seller reneged on a deal for a better offer post the deal being closed. The seller needs to determine if he or she is OK with that.

That's what's wrong with customer service today. One extreme or the other. No middle ground. No thinking or common sense required. Just take the easy money and run.

A person makes an offer.

Another person accepts said offer.

Yes. It really is that simple.

Suppose you had closed a deal on a gun at your LGS & I was standing behind you & offered more cash & the guy took it?

If I definitley want it, I'll post an I'll take it. If I'm the first, I should get it. If I don't then I won't deal with the person again. If I have questions or offer a trade, I'll post PM sent. If someone else says I'll take it, that's my tough luck.

Every seller I have dealt with on this forum has been cordial and honored the verbal agreements. I think this speaks volumes about the quality of person that spends time here.

As far as having to spend a certain amount of time on the forum before buying or selling, who cares?? As Lee said, that is the basis of a free market. Newbies may have something I want, and Newbies may have the cash (or trade) for my goods. Calm down, watch the ads, and be prepared to move when there is something you want!
