For those of you with SBRs and suppressors, I have a few of ?s.

I was thinking about running my suppressor on a 6" barrel inside of the OEM hand guards.

Do I need to chop the hand guards because of the hot can inside?

Will the heat of the suppressor warp or make the hand guards/sights flex?

Is it recommended to get the Tacticool barrel nut and run Al hand guards?

Thanks for any help.

Why 6"? That is hardly longer than a pistol barrel.

That being said why not just try it. If you do damage the rails then replace with a metal one.

Im about to cut mine to 4.5" and cut most of the hand guard off. I thought about 6", but I want the rounds to stay sub-sonic. Seems like with 6", they wont.

I have seen multiple 6" 15-22's with the suppressor under the hand guard. If you worry about the heat, wear gloves. You should be wearing them anyways during long range sessions.

Good luck!

About the wrap, I thought about running one. But found out they are not rated for constant fire. They are for slow fire from a long gun.

Mine has a 6" barrel, I've had it under the factory handguard with no issues at all. I now have it under a Troy rail with a War Sport suppressor sock to cut down on the heat, a few hundred rounds thru it way a time and its warm at best.

Right. My Ruger Pistol at 5.5'' won't shoot HV ammo subsonic, but my 4.5'' will. That said, I use CCI SV for pretty much all my .22 plinking and it stays subsonic in my rifles. At $25/500 it's economical enough and shoots considerably better than HV bulk.

I've had a few hosts with 4.5" including a suppressed AR22 kit. The AR22 took a lot of tweaking for the 4.5" barrel.

How does the 15-22 function on a 4.5" barrel?

Ill let you know in December when my stamp comes home. Im not even sure if it will work. I would like to run it at 6", but keep hearing that its hit or miss if the round will stay subsonic.

Will the CCI SV cycle fine, and stay subsonic with a can @ 6"?

Im currently @ ~430' above sea level. Moving next year to ~5400' up.

Low down, I like your 15/22, now I think I'm gonna get another MOE version and do the Dark Earth with fake suppressor. Like the looks a lot. very cool... I can't go short on the barrel, I live in COMMIFORNIA and lord knows it would make me evil, even thou I"m in LE... I must follow the rules that I live by... Thanks.

CCI SV is still super quiet in my 20" barrel without the can, and Hollywood quiet with the can. My rifle has the standard rifle bolt and springs and I have had ZERO issues with cycling.

Has anyone here done a 4.5" 15-22 barrel and can confirm the function?

while we wait for someone who has done this to post, here are some of my other 4.5" projects.

What are you using for ammo? With a barrel as long as 10" every .22 ammo upto and including high velocity will be subsonic. Only hyper velocity ammo will still be supersonic at 10" and 6" won't likely help either.
OK I see what you are saying. Still at 5000', like say Albuquerque or Denver the SOS does not go down that much. HV ammo like say CC-MM which is at 1235 FPS out of a 24" test barrel does around 1060 FPS out of a test pistol (10" barrel I think). A 6" barrel reduces the speed to something like 990 FPS and even at 5000' the SOS should still be above 1000 FPS. That is leaving out the issues for air temp and moisture which have an effect on the SOS also. A slightly slower ammo like Fed AutoMatch or CCI-Tactical (both 1200 FPS) might be enough even with a barrel longer than about 6".

That must be some compensator, if that's a 4.5" barrel! :D

Sorry, I got picture post happy. :) That one is 10" barrel integrally suppressed 77/22.

Anyway, if anyone here has cut a 15-22 to 4.5", please post on how it functioned or what modification you performed to getting to run well. I will get mine to running but it's nice to hear from people with actual experience.

Thanks again.

Ill let you know around the end of November when my stamp comes in.
