Thinking on a carry gun?

I have read a lot of good reviews on the Kahr's I have a CW.45 on the way (or maybe not bought it from Palmetto State Armory and am having the dreaded CS BS, been over a week not shipped and no word from CS:eek:). Want to try it but have to get it first.

I've had both a CW9 and a CW45. The triggers are very good. I haven't had them for a while, but when I had mine there were some common problems occurring with the magazines...one problem, IIRC, was that many had the spring in backwards.

You may want to spend some time reading the Kahr forum, because they have some articles on how to improve the break in period for Kahr pistols. Kahr stipulates a 200 round break in period, but many who did the "fluff and buff" stuff said they didn't have any malfunctions at all. Some said the same even without doing the "fluff and buff."

I have a ruger lcp 380 that I carry every day and it is the only pistol that I have that I will carry every day. It is so light that I forget that I have it, if they are uncomfortable or heavy you will not carry. Forget the range info, they are not made to target shoot with, and are not comfortable to shoot but they will hit well in the range they were intended to be shot. I didnt buy mine to shoot, but to carry for self defence, I will not carry my chief special for long because it is uncomfortable, this lcp fits the bill for me.

IF you can get your hands on one try the Bersa BP9CC. VERY comfortable to shoot, great trigger and the trigger reset is the shortest I've ever experienced. Single stack 9mm, 8 + 1 rounds, weighs 21.5 oz unloaded. Go to bersachat and read about deep cleaning one prior to firing it and it will be flawless. I'd buy another one without hesitation.

I bought the first one that came into my LGS....and traded it a few days later before ever firing it. It had the lightest trigger I had ever felt on any gun in my life...it couldn't have been 2 lbs, if that! That was just too scary on a gun without a safety, for me. Maybe mine was an unusual example, because most people give it good reviews. I do agree that the reset was very short, and in all other respects it was a good carry gun (in terms of size, weight, feel, etc.)

S&W MP9c or the Ruger SR9c are two very good guns. You might also look at Bersa guns. And of course their is the snub .38.

You look at the Springfield XDs in .45, or the XDm 3.8 compact in .45 or 9?
Really depends if you are going to carry in the pocket, IWB or OWB.

You will be hard pressed to find a suitable 9 for the pocket.
IWB you want something in a single stack, XDS, Shield.
OWB the world is your oyster.

I got my permit but normally just carry in the vehicle. I been looking at the shield which you cant find hardly. Also been looking at the Ruger LC9 and Keltec PF9. What do yall think of the Ruger or the Keltec anyone have either? How are the triggers? I got the M&P 9mm Full size right now but just to big to carry on person. Thanks for any feedback.

How does “normally just carry in the vehicle” work?

Are you likely to be attacked in your vehicle and then engage the attackers with gunfire?

The reason I ask is I’ve never found myself feeling like I had a threat that I might need to shoot from my vehicle. I do live in a small town that’s seems pretty safe however. When we go to the big city, Portland, I think I’d just lock the doors and put the windows up and drive if I felt like I was in a bad part of town. Even though I have a holstered handgun accessible to me.

When I’m out of my vehicle I feel more vulnerable. I always carry and am alert for threats, so I think I’m doing what I can there. Do you leave your gun in your car when you are out and about?

I guess I don’t understand using a vehicle as a holster?
It seems like you’d have a gun somewhat accessible to you when you didn’t need it, and not accessible to you when you were more likely to need it?

I’m confused.

I'd be willing to bet that of those who will admit it, the small J frame is the gun that gets carried more than any other. It is small enough to fit in a pocket, has enough oomph to save your bacon and requires little if any maintenance to function 100%.

As to "carrying in the car" please reconsider. Guns left in cars/trucks are eventually stolen and used by bad guys on the public, and currently in locations that are posted as gun free zones.

Save yourself money and trouble. Buy a nice 3913. It is superior in trigger, reliability and accuracy to your other choices.

It probably can be purchased for less than the others as well. I just picked up a clean 3913 for $425 with two mags. They are out there.

If you want a second opinion, your other choices are ugly guns. ;) Good luck! Regards 18DAI

Save yourself some time & money and go with something thats been proven durable and reliable. Keltecs arnt it

-M&P
-Glock
-HK
-Older Sigs with "made in Germany" stamp
-3rd gen S&W semi auto
-Walther
-CZ
-S&w revolver
-Ruger revolver

If you like the idea of easy to get mags Glock and M&P are it.

Kahrs are good. The whole thing about having a "break in period" is a bit over blown. There is really no such thing. If you are putting lead down range you are doing a "break in period". Technically every time i go to the rang i have a "break in period". Besides you should always start with one type of ammo and weight and move on from there that way you know what your gun likes.

Stay away from the cheaper guns. They are cheap for a reason.

A couple of months ago I finally decided to stop trying to compromise on carry vs. range vs. home defense pistols and I finally spent the cash on a pistol I can carry concealed all day long without regretting it.

I picked up a S&W 3" 1911 Pro Series in .45 acp. I was sweating when I bought it, but have not regretted it. It's light, easy to conceal and a joy to shoot. I recommend it if you can get your hands on one.

Yes

2001gmc: Have you considered a small frame snubnose revolver? S&W makes many different types of snubnose revolvers, in several different calibers, please consider a snubnose revolver.

Consider a .38 2" snubbie, think about ammo costs also.
I have a '68 K-Frame and it's great!!

=-)

Since you like your MP9 (what's not to like?), get an MP9C. Great shooting pistol that conceals well. I use the S&W/De Santis Thumb Break holster which works equally well at 3:00 or weak side cross draw.

My favorite revolver is the Smith 649 snubbie 357 in stainless dressed out with a nice set of Crimson Trace Laser Grips. It will handle 357's just fine but I prefer hollow point 38 + P's. It resides in a very nice Lobo Gun Leather Enhanced Pancake.

The ultimate in concealment for me is my Bersa Thunder .380 CC model. One of the best shooting pistols I have ever encountered and it absolutely disappears into a jacket or pants packet.

I let where I'm going and what I'll be doing determine which will be the best choice. All three shoot very well, conceal nicely and are very reliable.

The M&P 9c would be a great companion piece for your full size. I have one and carry it some. And your high cap mags will work in it.

I have an M&P9C and think it is a super pistol, but I carry my Beretta Nano more often then I do it (size). I had a Kel-Tec PF-9 and it beat the %^*& out of my hand and I just couldn't get over its poor fit and finish so I sold it. I am a Ruger fan - have Security Six, an SR40C and an SR22P - love all of them. However, the LC9 is too much like the PF-9. I didn't buy a Shield because I'm left-handed and didn't like the safety (don't have that problem with the 9C - it's fully ambi and no safety), but would have if it wasn't for that. I have since fallen in love with my Nano.
