It seems that the New York legislature acted so quickly to pass their recent gun control bill that they failed to include an exemption for law enforcement officers.

I can just see all the cops arresting each other for possession of banned hi-capacity magazines on the first day the new law becomes effective!

"Book 'em, Danno. Three counts, more than 7 rounds in a magazine."

Government at its finest. They probably meant to do that, The police keep arresting the voters who support them. :D

:D LMAO!!!!

Why do they need an exception?

The new laws will make everything safe enough that they won't need more than 7 rounds.

Besides, they have a year to get rid of their "high capacity" magazines and replace them with 7 round capacity ones just like everyone else; and until then, they can go on patrol with seven rounds loaded in whatever they are carrying. I'm sure the persons they are after won't load more than 7 rounds either.

Shouldn't be any burden at all.

Maybe the police should be restricted to the same capacity as the civilian population..being a retired law enforcement officer I got to read a lot of reports dealing with shootings by police..one thing that struck me as needing attention was the fact that officers who had high capacity mags used them up and most of the time without results..one incident I recall was a Deputy Sheriff carrying a S&W 669 had a shootout with a bad guy who had a Browning High Power..they chased each other around the car shooting at each other until both had used up all their ammo and the officer finally tackled the guy and cuffed him..so the officer had a total of 3 mags, a total of 36 rounds plus one in the chamber and the perp had 16 total..so where did all the bullets go?..no one was hit and they could not find the impact of all those rounds..keeping them down to what civilians carry will reduce the chances of bystanders being hurt or filled..as what happened in New York City a while back..the laws should apply to all and movie companies or police should not be exempt..then I think we will have fair and balanced laws regarding guns.

T-stick-Good point, and anyway, all you have to do is read some of their after action reports to see that they rarely, if ever, shoot more that 2 or 3 rounds in armed confrontations, well, except that deal over by the Empire State building where they cut up all those civilians; and then that time where...

Ok, so when I first read this my feeble mind thought, "Oh, off duty cops". The I re-read it again and it appears to include even on-duty LEOs. That is just funny that every officer who puts on his belt with his Glock or other with 15 round mag and extra mags in pouches is in violation of the new law. That is truly hilarious.

But I suppose it doesn't much matter because nobody will have more than 7 rounds anyway because of this new law....yup I will feel so much safer if I ever have to go to NY.

BWA HA HA HA! Well, you gotta admit. At least the bill was "fair" in that it applied equally to EVERYBODY. :D

Now maybe if the NYPD started issuing revolvers again, we wouldn't have incidents like the Empire State Building debacle, at least in theory anyway.

The way Nypd shoots as seen a few months ago during the take down of person who shot his boss at state building us civilians may be safer with police having just 7 rounds

I just read something about this but I can not find the article right now. The law did not exempt "retired" LEO's. It did not mention current LEO's. And the stink was coming from the FOP's. If I can find it I will post it here.

I just can not help but notice the number of members that are appalled by the recent NY gun laws that do not seem to be members of the NRA. To those who are not affiliated with a group that is dedicated in keeping the spirit of the 2nd Amendment intact, you must realize that this is only the start of terrible things can happen if we do not support groups that try to protect our gun rights. This is the time to join, especially when a year's membership is currently free! The NRA is certainly not perfect, but you have to ask how effective can you be posting complaints on this forum?

In another forum they said the law included all pistols and rifles, so we will see, it was a law officer that posted it. He said guess what NY you just lost your 2nd Amendment rights and he was serious..

I'd like to hear the justification when they amend this law to allow just LEO's to use more than 7 rounds and civilians can't. They need more and we don't... Why? Criminals will only be using 7 rounds too and most of them only have one magazine...
