I am new (both to this forum and owning a smith) I picked up a Model 28-2 Highway patrolman a couple days ago and love it!

However above the trigger it looks like the stamping was done several times (image link below). What would have caused this and does it affect the value of the handgun?

I paid 650 for it, thought it was reasonable(Have original wood grips and holster)

Does it hurt the value? and is this common? I couldn't find another like it anywhere

Thanks for the reply!

Any ideas as to how much it would change the value?

Thanks for yalls time!

Not much. The 28-2 is a common enough N-frame. Most of them are shooters. It was marketed as a sort of economy-grade N frame .357, so I wouldn't worry. I don't think it detracts much at all.
Find a 1955 penny that looks like that and it'll be your lucky day.

Looks like that one got stamped during the Smith & Wesson Christmas party. I wouldn't let a little error like that bother me those guns are made for shootin'.

I like how its unique (its the only one I've ever seen) adds character to it. The gun is immaculate, no flaws or scratches etc. Can't wait to shoot it!

4-6 weeks ago there was a 99% blue 27-2 with a 3 1/2" barrel on G-broker...........except the Smith & Wesson .357 on the barrel was upside down. I don't know how the price was effected but it was enough to chase me away.

I've often wondered if things like that happen because somebody was bored at work one day and knew it would be quite a conversation starter.

I wonder on these if it was missed totally, or one of those things where they notice and it's not "enough" to pull it from going out?

Very interesting.
