I was cleaning my 15-22 this morning, and found a small pin-like piece of metal loose in the well next to the hammer. Photo attached, anyone know what this is?

Yep, just figured it out too . Looks like it's going back to S&W for repair.

Take two minutes to determine whether the piece came off the hammer spring or the trigger spring. Then buy a replacement spring from anyone with AR FCG parts and take another five minutes to replace it. No big deal.

It's a hammer spring piece, came off the spring on the right side of the hammer. Will look into a replacement part, thanks.

And I was not trying to do a trigger job :).

OK, well now I'm confused. I rechecked the springs, taking out the hammer assembly and both the hammer and trigger springs look intact. So I still don't know where that loose wire came from. Also, now the hammer pin keeps walking out when I shoot causing the hammer to go off center. Not sure if it's related to the piece of wire I found, but happened at the same time. Any other suggestions?

Then it's the J-spring out of the hammer that holds the hammer pin in position. You will need to contact S&W for a repair/replacement.

Thanks Majorlk! I also did more research and agree its the J spring, need a new hammer. Will call S&W next week to see if they will send me a replacement. At least I've learned a lot more about the hammer/trigger assemblies :).
