Groups at 100 yards

Well i live in iowa, i would love to see old max do it, hell i would even put a hefty wager on the it cant be done side of the argument, at least not as he described.

I can't believe this (off) topic has run this far. Anyone who knows anything about rifles knows that the 15-22 is not a sub MOA rifle. To find a true sub MOA 22lr would take a heck of a lot more effort and expense than a S&W can deliver in a a 15/22. That's not knocking the 15/22, it's just reality...

Just for clarity's sake, 1 MOA would be about 1/4" at 25 yards. Anyone here putting all your rounds through the same hole at 25 yards? (Consistently?)

If you're not at least doing the above, you can wave 1 MOA at 100 yards GOOD-BYE.

25 yards indoor,standing.

I get groups similar to the one in the bottom right of your picture, with certain ammo. The guy who I let shoot it got even tighter ones than that. Nothing close to 1MOA though.

Next people will be talking about hitting an O2 bottle with a Mosin and open sights at 1000 yards.

KBK

I shoot in a BR50 league as well. 50 yards, very expensive gun and ammo, on a thousand dollar front rest and a sandbag rear. Most use a 24 or 36 power scope.

And I have to tell you that it is very tough to get a nickel sized group. These guys wouldn't even try 100 yards.

But to do this with a $500 M&P 15 22 would be amazing! And open sights? WOW!

The nature of the 22 makes it very unstable. It is affected by the wind and elements more than other ammo.

Maybe I should just take my M&P to the matches?

You guys are getting your chain jerked buy some folks claiming their 15-22 can shoot nickle or even quarter size groups.
If this was true, it would make the 15-22 the most accurate rifle Smith makes without it going thru the match dept.
I am a member of a club that holds monthly competitions for rimfire rifles.
Its held indoors, so there is no wind to effect the bullet.
The top shooters have spent at least $5k on their custom made 22 rim single shot rifles.
Their target is the size of a dime @ 50 yards. The closest to the . in the center is the winner.
Most will hit the dime size target all the time.
The problem with 22 rim fire ammo and accuracy is the small case size.
Just a few specs of powder will make a difference in your vertical hit height. Believe me, these guys spend lots on just a 50 round box, with matching lot#'s to get that sort of accuracy.
A lot of these guys compete internationally , To think the 15-22 is even close to these sort of groups is laughable.
The 15-22 is fun gun to shoot up close with lots of stuff to buy for it.
But thats about it.

Youre not going to believe this but....

200yrds at night in a wind storm with open sights shooting a single pump air rifle

:D:D:D

Without the windstorm you wouldn't be able to cover it with a dollar!!

I've never shot my 15-22 at 100 yards. I've shot it quite a bit at 50 yards. I can get consistent 3/4" groups (three rounds) at 50 yards with CCI SS, Lapua Match, or Federal Gold Medal match; all 40 grain. I shoot the rifle suppressed, so I only run sub-sonic ammo through it. Mostly with an EoTech XPS2 and off a good solid rest.

This topic has interested me for some time.
So, I decided to give it a try myself.
Since my nice scope has a 40 mm objective, my selection of rings wasnt going to work. So , I ordered a riser.
Should be interesting. Ive got some Federal and some Yellow box, just wish I had some Eley to try.
