Need advice: Should i trade a M1 Garand for an AK47?

That appears to be a CALIFORNIA state bill (no surprise there).

I dont think there is anyway on God's green earth I would consider trading a Garand for an AK. That AK is a parts gun no matter what. It is a parts kit slapped together on a US receiver.

There isn't even any discussion here as far as I am concerned....it is a poor trade.

They are about as "slapped together" as the Garand.

Arsenal AKs come in as fully functional rifles not kits

(Not counting home builds)

Is this a trick question?

M1 Garand. Sigh. Sounds of Angels singing.

AK47. Blechh!

My first instinct would be NO. But in the last year AKs have doubled in price. Polish underfolders are at the top of desired AKs. If any kind of AWB hits the price of all evil black guns will go through the roof. You say you already have Garands, trade the one you like the least. Ask for some more mags. to boot. Also AK ammo. is much cheaper!

Hmmmm......I don't think he said Arsenal. Did he?

"I'm currently debating if i want to go through on a trade i had planned. I have several m1 garands already and ordered one more field grade from the CMP that i had planned on trading for a polish underfolder AK47 including several magazines. I'm now having second thoughts."

Oh okay, he didn't say Arsenal.....he said Polish.

Hmmm.....never seen a Polish AK come into the country as a complete rifle.

But please, correct me if I'm wrong......

You are not wrong. He told me he assembled it in a build party. 1000 rounds through the barrel. Told me its in great shape other then the front sight is canted a bit to the right.

Let me modify my question a bit to this:

Is a polish underfolder AK47 with a couple mags and dros + lock covered with 1000 rounds wear on the barrel worth $550?

I'd hold onto the Garand. CMP stock is not what it used to be and I am sure that AK platforms will be with us for many ore years to come. Just my two cents friend.

Do you have a "best" friend? Someone you'd trust with your life?

If so, take the Garand to him, ask him to hold it until you come to your senses.

And, based on your last post about this "nice" AK having its sight canted to the right, it may be a while before he can return the Garand to you.

Hi all,

I'm currently debating if i want to go through on a trade i had planned. I have several m1 garands already and ordered one more field grade from the CMP that i had planned on trading for a polish underfolder AK47 including several magazines. I'm now having second thoughts.

I received the rifle yesterday and after looking it over i feel split on if i want to part with it now. I already had 4 garands and the trading the last would be mostly for enjoyment at the range, but i'm now wondering if i should go through with it? Would i be a sucker to trade a field grade springfield m1 garand in the 3.8m sn range with a circle p marked stock for a polish underfolder ak47?

Thoughts?

Don't do it!!

Which is canted the sight base or the sight post? Posts are adjustable. Canted sight base means he just eyed it when he put it on. Can be fixed at home if you like to tinker or any gunsmith

Again, I was referring to "the" AK being "the Polish" AK he mentioned. I am well aware that Arsenal imports fully functioning rifles.

Mitchells imported complete Yugoslavian rifles, Kassnar imported complete Hungarian rifles, a multitude of different companies imported complete Chinese rifles. Century imported complete Romanian rifles.

I was not making a blanket statement about "the AK" rifle as a whole.

OP, given that you've clarified that this is a "home build" I stand by my original advice. I would NEVER purchase a rifle someone put together. First off, quality control is questionable. Second, no warranty.

Keep your Garand. In the long run you will be happier.

I own multiple AKs (complete imports) and none are comparable to my one Garand.

Five Hundred and Fifty Dollars U.S. ?????

I'd not think it would, at the current rate of exchange of common sense.

Your deal...So, use your best judgment.

I personally, would not ever consider such a trade as you discribed....Never & Forever....Plus Ten Years

Oh my, keep the Garand, no question. As many have said, 47's are a dime a dozen. And while both have a very successful place in history, and they both go bang....their is no comparison when it come to build quality and accuracy. Forged receiver verses stamped, superior American metallurgy in the M1....kind of like comparing a Yugo with no airbags to a Hummer, or Cadillac, or...they both get you from point A to point B, but what a difference between the two. My .02 cents (and George Patton would agree with me)

This qualifies the AK as a Bubba Gun, irrespective of the quality or lack thereof. Thus, no trade.

I would swap the Garand for a better AK, preferably a Bulgarian. Ammo is plentiful and relatively inexpensive, and parts abound. A higher quality AK is the most practical rifle to own.

Although i love my AK's way more than any of my other assault style weapons. I'd be the first to say no way in hell would i give up an M1 garand for a piece of **** AK.

AK's come a dime a dozen, u can buy them pretty much anywhere u look. A good M1 on the other hand, is hard to find a cheap price. And trading one straight up for an AK is cheaper than cheap.
