The ultimate Highway Patrolman thread.including N frame ser# ranges

I have a guy who wants to sell a 6" Highway Patrolman minus the grips for $400, opinions anyone, is it a good deal since I would have to find grips?

28-2 with slightly differing serial numbers

I don't know if the person I bought this from was the first owner. The person I bought it from was a hunter and a Redfield 4X scope was mounted on it. He did not have the original sight. I found a sight from a 27 lying around and put it on.
I don't know if the grips are original, but they seem to match the SCSW and were on the gun when I bought it.
The serial number as stamped on the frame starts with "N." The same number is stamped inside the ejector rod housing but starts with "F."
It's a very nice gun.

Forget the one beginning with the F, especially if it is not the same. The only one that is important is the one stamped at the bottom of the frame (N XXX....) ;)

I guess this one was made in the 69-72 Range #N96xxx. Sold to the Anchorage Police Department Issued to ME. I was allowed to keep it when I retired.

I have a 4 inch model 28 and I'm about to aquire a six inch. What is the make of your holster? I want to have a black basketweave setup like that, to make the police guns feel at home.

Here's my newest. I bought it yesterday from the original owner, who swears this Highway Patrolman has never been fired. It's a 28-2, SN 2524xx.

Quoting myself, I wanted to upload (okay, I know, a somewhat lousy) picture of both my Model 28-2s.

The 6 inch barrel is SN 2274xx and the 4 inch is from the original quote, SN 2524xx. Judging from bluing and the lack of holster wear, the 6 inch is practically new also.

Instead of starting a new thread I thought I'd put this here. How rare are the 3.5 inch HPs? Or were there any 3.5 inchers made.

Thanks, Taroman. I had recently seen where someone had bought a 3.5 inch HP that turned out to be a standard 4-incher. I didn't think there were ever any short HPs made. I had never heard or seen of any here or anywhere else. Just wanted to be sure.
To make a long story short, Thanks....
