M&P 15-22 Picture Thread

Ended up ditching my cheapy pop-up sights after one range trip; the poor build quality (including burrs and mis-centered holes) made properly adjusting the front sight post a nightmare. I'm working on a 'review' write up on them to help others avoid. They were sold as 'combat capable' but IMO they were barely up to airsoft standards. I mean, who paints a rear-sight aperture with gloss paint?!?

Went over to Magpul Gen2 MBUS units. Much better quality of construction, and smooth adjustment. I can see now why they are able to command the prices they do.

Pics later tonight probably.

My new baby!

Got this baby a few weeks ago. Already shot about 200 rounds through her, and I LOVE it. So far I've got the following add-ons:

  • Barska 3-9x42mm dual illumination scope
  • TruGlo TruBrite dual illumination 4-reticle dot sight (mounted on a 45-degree adapter)
  • Adjustable Bipod w/ sling adapter
  • Vertical foregrip
  • GL Shock-CP stock (from The Mako Group)

I also threw an old sling on there for the meantime, but i'll get a good one soon enough. Right now i'm using CCI Velocitor ammo, and they're great. I managed to get 5 consecutive shots in a nickel-sized grouping at 100m.

I attempted the tacticrayola, but didn't do the whole heating thing. It looks OKAY, but when I get the time I'll be scraping it out and trying again!

Update time already. Magpul party is complete for now with the arrival of the CTR and MS3 sling. It's shooting pretty well w/ the bug buster, at some point the replacement for the funky Barska red dot will show up and I'll try that. I managed to react quickly enough to order 4 short 10rd mags last night, so I should be seeing those soon. This thing is such a blast to shoot, and I'm enjoying learning a bunch about it on this great site. Here's a couple of photos, one w/ the new bits.

nice, but i never understand why folks run an optic and then their front site only, no rear? i know there is no room but take off that front one so it looks uniform. otherwise all pics are good for the little bunny killer.

@Kastl: Nickel size groups at 100m with a semi-auto 22lr?

I find that extremely hard to believe. If it is true, you need to stop whatever it is you're doing and start shooting professionally.

Your post got me wondering how it would look. I'd never really planned to use the scope very much on this rifle but since I've had the problem w/ the red dot I bought and had to return it, I thought I'd try the scope from the 10-22. I took the carry handle/sight off the back of the rail and put the scope on, never thinking about the front sight because it was "temporary". Seeing how it's soooo easy to install/remove/swap things on this rifle, what the heck. It does look better! Since it's a photo thread, here we go again...

now either take that ring out of the end of the handguard or drill it out so it does not touch the barrel (i just removed mine) and you have a free floated barrel.

Done. I'll let you know how that works out later this week. Thanks for the advice!

even that little bit of pressure from that cap on the barrel will through off harmonics, it may not affect accuracy in great amounts, but every little bit counts. i don't intend on putting any high dollar forends on the little .22, so removing the cap is about as FF'd as it is going to get! the optics and can are worth more than the gun!
