The Oscar nominations are out!!!!!!!!!!!

I could care less.
Hollywood is a cesspit full of self-loving morons who couldn't collectively survive in the real world for more than a day.

The last movie I saw in a theater was Hannibal, and that was because I was bored while travelling and the theater was across the street.

I haven't owned a television for over 20 years.

There are some kids playing on your lawn. Get out the hose.

I went to three movies last year, two of them featuring Tom Hanks.
One because I wanted to see it...Captain Phillips.
One was because Mrs. SS2 wanted to see it...Saving Mr. Banks.
And one because we both wanted to see it...RED 2.

CW

Oh wait...I lied. We did see one other movie this year. We saw Casablanca at the Fox Theater!

The last time I went to a theater was to take my 4 year old son to a new release, "Return of the Jeddi". He's now 34 and I haven't been to a theater since. Just don't like crowds. I just wait until it comes out on (fill in the current media, tape/CD/Blue Ray ) or TV. I'm patient.

Local girl makes good again--Jennifer Lawrence, a native of my adopted city, has her third nomination at age 23. This one's for supporting actress in "American Hustle"--she won best actress for "Silver Linings Playbook", and at 20 was nominated for "Winter's Bone".
I haven't seen anything but trailers and mini-clips of her work. Need to remedy that.

Winter's Bone was a very dark but also a very good movie. I watched it a couple of years ago, but I still have the DVD and I will break it out and watch it again sometimes in 2014.

I have not seen the other two you mention.

I haven't seen a movie since "The Empire Strikes Back". I thought it was a pretty good flick.

I would rather watch QVC for 24hrs. than watch any of these shows.Where else but Hollywood can a narcissistic self-idolizing group of people make millions of dollars and still need a statue to substantiate their existence? For me it stopped when they started using their wealth and name recognition for political and charitable purposes.

What a bunch of smug liberal elitists! I have no use for any of them.

I go to a movie theater about once a month but I almost always leave a little disappointed. I took my teenage daughter to see "Catching Fire" last weekend and she loved it, me...it was just O.K. I also took the whole family to see Walter Mitty and was pretty intrigued for most of the movie, but then the ending was just blah. We have a Tinseltown theater that was recently remodeled and pretty nice, and afternoon movies are only $ 4.50 so if we take our own snacks in I don't feel like I was totally ripped off.

I'm not saying that they aren't good movies-I'm just sayin' that I haven't seen any of them. I'd like to see American Hustle and Wolf of Wall St but just haven't drug my sorry arse off the couch and out of the house to see them.

I've always been a movie fan, and I've seen most (but not all) of the movies nominated this year for best picture. I find it interesting, but not surprising that "Lone Survivor" did not make the list.

"Lone Survivor" is a brutally realistic film about a real event that occurred in Afghanistan where only one of a four man mission returned alive. The movie is extremely well-done. My guess is that the spoiled millionaire elite of Hollywood are too uncomfortable thinking about real American heroes; they like to think of themselves, who take no risks and enjoy the high life, as "heroes" because of their fans worship of them. This movie is about real heroes, not sports stars, not actors and not rock stars.

Okay...bottom line is you have to take the bad with the good...sure, there are some idiot activist actors and misguided polemic producers but if there was no Hollywood there would be no John Wayne. Gary Cooper, Clint Eastwood along with hundreds of great movies spanning almost a century that most everyone here really really likes. Now if you'll excuse me, "Justified" is on tonight and I have to get ready!!

Jeez, what a bunch of cavemen. I just got back from the theater.

"Frozen"
I knew you were dying to know!
