Will the new M&P Bodyguard be a winner?

What is the advantage to this one over the old one with the laser?

At first glance, that appears to be the main difference. Apparently some Leos are forbidden using lasers on their weapons and can't use the bodyguard as a backup. Now they can. I'm sure more info will be forthcoming.

I got used to how the BG looked before, looks like something is missing on this new one... And is S&W going to start just calling all of their black guns M&P now? They added it to this, and they even have it stamped into the R8 revolvers...

Less money. Now it can compete price wise with the LCP. Many 1st timers are impressed with the laser, but when I explain to them that when Homie de Clown is trying to rob them from a distance of 2 feet, is a laser really necessary. Their eyes open wide, & when they realize it's not needed, they buy the LCP. I guess S&W realized they were losing lots of sales, so they wised up. GARY

The old BG with a snap cap in the chamber and the laser on makes for really good dry fire practice.

They weren't all that pricey at most dealer's anyways.

The new version comes with 2 mags, no laser, "M&P" stamped on the slide, and the wavy grip lines on the rear of the slide.

Looks like they should take the same magazine, anybody know for sure?

Smith has been making M&P's since forever...or so it seems. The model 10 revolver was the model 1 .38 special M&P (circa 1899) before it was renamed the model 10 in the late 50's.:)

S&W's version of the Derringer, lol. I'm not a big fan of 9mm, either. I still wouldn't want to be shot by one, though.

I carry a Gen 1 almost daily. I'm gonna buy one just to have one. Hope it fits my Fobus.

I passed up the older version of the Bodyguard because I didn't like the laser on it. Had this one been available a year ago, I would have bought it instead of the LCP.

The first handgun I purchased was a BG380. I love that thing and that's how my M&P addiction started.:o :D

I am not a big fan of lasers and the idea of an integrated laser just seemed like a problem waiting to happen. I looked at it like the TV's that have a DVD player built in. Yeah, it seems like a god idea until the DVD player breaks and now you have a bulkier TV with a broken DVD player you can't use. I have been eyeing the Bodyguard and now that it is cheaper and you get a second magazine (I always think it is BS not to give 2 mags anyway) I am obsessing even more. Don't know that the M&P designation is a seller but it does not hurt. Should be a good seller. Hopefully one will find its way into my collection soon.

Same here. Now what to do? Keep obsessing for the M&P Bodyguard to compliment my M&P Shield and 9c; buy one and sell my LCP; forgetaboutit and keep the LCP; buy the M&P Bodyguard & keep the LCP? Have another ice fishing fiasco and lose all to Lake Erie and start over again?;)

Another reason I bought the LCP was because of the stories I read on this forum about feeding and/or ejection issues with the Bodyguard when it first came out. Have those issues been resolved or were they non-issues? I haven't been following the Bodyguard ever since I bought the LCP.

The BG is an excellent gun, no issues to speak of today, and the issues from the beginning were few and far between... If you want a BG, then get it and keep the LCP... :)
