Hello all,
new member here (1911 guy finally venturing into wheel guns) :)

I have the option of buying either a 586 or a 586-1 from the same guy, and same price (CAD$700), however I'm not sure which one is more preferable. I understand the -1 has "Radius stud package, floating hand" but I have no idea how that translate into real usage.

Please help an undecided buyer... ;)

Wood stock is the pre-dash, rubber stocks is the -1

See if he will part with both for $1,200.00.

I know not a good answer. I have a 686-1 and it is a great pistol. I am sure the same can be said for both of these. I would probably go with the non-dash simply because of the wood grips.

They are both nice from your pictures. I can't wait for the response from others providing more substance to their answer.

Sorry, can't buy both since he also has a 17-5 that I also want... ;)

Getting rid of a high(er) end production 1911 to finance these babies!

Get the no-dash. The original, and still the greatest, L frame. 686s are everywhere. Good 586 and 581 models are somewhat scarce-er.

I would choose the 586. I do not like the floating hand and replace them immediately!! It tends to make a hitch in double action shooting. They were soon replaced with the original hand.

the no dash and then replace the wood grips with ahrends retro combats. you could then sell the targets or hang onto them. mine is the most accurate handgun i own with that setup. and very stylish too.

I would go along with the majority opinion here and get the no dash. If you like you can change the stocks to something that fits your hand and your fancy better. There is always a strong market for wood stocks so you can save them, sell them or do as I do and use them.

Great gun for IDPA.

Here is my 581 no dash

Ditto.

As long as the 586 no dash is in near the same condition as the dash-1 I would go along with the majority of other opinions, i.e. go with the 586 no dash.

No dash....... for all the reasons above and the fact the wood adds..... $50-100 to it's value.

No one has asked .....is it M stamped ?...... not a big deal and many consider it a + or a - ....LOL

I would buy the no-dash. Unless the condition indicates a lot of hard use and the -1 is in near mint condition. Even then I might go with the no dash just because I like old stuff.

Thanks everybody! I went for the no dash, and yes, both are M stamped.

In the end I did not get the 17-5, as I also found a 17 no dash for CAD$600. Whoooho, now patienly waiting for my two no dash babies to arrive.

You can't go wrong with either option. I have a 586 no dash, I bought several years ago. It was priced at less than $450.00 and was there right now, so no searching. After shooting it several times with both 38 special and .357 Magnum ammo its become one of my home ready guns. I can't think of a higher complement.
