What was the last movie you saw, and did you like it?

After having read "The Boer War" twice, "Omdurman" twice I had to throw in my copies of "Zulu" and "Zulu Dawn" and watch them again. Both movies depicted two battles with the Zulus that happened on the same day. In "Zulu Dawn" in 1979 at Islawanda in Natal, South Africa a force of 1,800 British soldiers were massacred by 24,000 Zulus. Later that same day 130 soldiers and native troops successfully held off 8,000 Zulu warriors at Rorke's Drift in "Zulu".

Just watched Lone Survivor from NetFlix. I'd have given it 5 out of 5 stars but I read the book so I'll give it 4 out of 5. They grossly misrepresented or left out some key facts/information. I'd also rather a different actor than Wallburg play the lead (and no, not TOM the girly man Cruise ;rolleyes: )

Wahlburg is the reason ive not watched it yet. Id have liked to see someone else in his place--maybe even Andrew Lincoln (of) The Walking Dead) fame--even better--Norman Reddus also of The Walking Dead.

Speaking of Islandulwana--oneof my friends who lives in St. Albans--his great great grandfather was killed there. Ill see if Ican get more info from him when time permits?

A surprise like by me--on TCM,just saw: The Seventh Cross w/Spencer Tracy, Agnes Moorehead, Hume Cronyn and George Macready. Not bad for what it was about and imnot spoiling it for others but--not bad a-tall.

I have always loved Spence. He made an obscure little flick called "Bad Day at Black Rock" with Earnest Borgnine and Lee Marvin. An awesome performance. There is a saying that is popular these days and it could have been his signature line in that movie. "I'm here to kick butt and chew bubble gum....and I'm fresh out of bubble gum." Not to shabby for a guy with only one arm.....

Got a new entry here that I felt was worth noting. Just watched "The Frozen Ground", with Nicholas Cage and John Cusack. If you watch that do yourself a BIG favor and take a couple of Tylenol before you do. Anytime I watch a movie with that much tension I have a major headache by the time it's over. The last movie I watched that hit me this hard was "7" with Brad Pit and Morgan Freeman.

"Frozen Ground" isn't nearly as gross but it is a true story that happened in 1983 about a guy that did a bunch of murders in Alaska in the 70s and early 80s. The Ted Bundy of Alaska you could say. Nicholas Cage has come into his own and a skilled actor as of this movie and Cusack has established himself as a very versatile actor capable of a lot more depth than the mild mannered good guy he usually plays.

It's a dark and gritty story but the direction, screen writing, and especially the acting even down to the bit players is so powerful you can't not look.

The sheer number of victims in this case makes it a most depressing story. But again, so well done that it was worth watching.

I didn't like it as an entertainment but I was impressed (and depressed) by it. It is a great movie in that regard.

The last movie I saw in the theater was probably "John Carter of Mars". It wasn't bad, although I thought the casting of the lead was uninspiring. In the books, Carter is a Southern cavalier. In the movie, he reminded me of any of a hundred Manhattan stockbrokers I've seen on one or other of the "Law & Orders". Still, it could have been much, much worse.

I watched "Emperor" on cable a few weeks ago. It wasn't bad, albeit only slightly more historical than "John Carter of Mars".

Mostly what I watch is '30s movies on TCM and GetTV. I can't name a current popular actress who can hold a candle to a Stanwyck, Blondell or even a Crawford.

Me to. Ive been a big fan of his since seeing him in: Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo and Northwest Passage. Before we ever had cable--I never once saw any of his movies sine none were ever shown locally.

Forgot tomention, today TCM is showing a marathon of James Garner movies. When I left the house-they were showing Grand Prix.

We've recently watched Mitty which was entertaining. Well filmed and ably acted but not great cinema. I still prefer the Danny Kaye original. "Ta-pocketa, ta-pocketa!"

We watched Nonstop over the weekend. We both gave it a 3 out of 5 and that was generous. When the plane was in free fall and a gun floated up into his hand so he could shoot the bad guy was a bit much.

Danny Kaye was the best and like the remake of True grit--Dukes version is the only version ill watch--same with Walter Mitty--Kaye all the Waye. :D

Say what you will about Nicholas Cage but the guy always looks constipated. If he ever dislodges that **** his career is over.

Its a good thing he invested heavily in old Golden Age comic books, he also lost a several million dollar mansion in Florida within the ast few years.

I can't name a current popular actress who can hold a candle to a Stanwyck, Blondell or even a Crawford.

I can: Meryl Streep. She simply becomes the characters she plays, including real women like Julia Child and Margaret Thatcher. Possibly the finest actress I've ever seen.

Of course now she's in her 60's, but she still looks wonderful and has only improved her skills with age.

Just viewed "LUCY" this past weekend. I enjoyed it. Alot of subtle commentary along with the action scenes, car chases and gun fights. The special-effects were quite good. Of course, Morgan Freeman displayed his usual abilities. Scarlett Johanssen was a good person for her role as Lucy.

While waiting for some real programming to start on TV last night, I watched part of a dumb movie called: Swamp Gator--on the Sci Fi channel. The best part of it was Robert Davi?? (SP?) being in it as a hick Sheriff.

I have always enjoyed Davi's acting ability. I have never undertstood why he has never gotten more popular and why he seems trapped, for the most part in more minor movies that major ones. He has appeared in some major flicks but never in a major part.

Just one of the many under rated/under appreciated actors in the industry these days. He makes a great bad guy. He has been in one or two of the 007 movies and was very good.

We took our son to see Planes Fire & Rescue when it opened and it was pretty good even for an animated movie. He loved it, I liked it and it was at the Drive In, any chance you get to go to one of those it a guaranteed good time.
