Mod 30-1

Jim, Right on---and to add to the issue, I am a lefty (at least most of the time). I have never worn a shoulder holster but think I might try if I can find one. I find the "warm weather" issue to be a special problem and tend to not carry, and I don't like that. Any suggestions?

Yes, I have a suggestion. Bianchi, Galco, Safariland, Triple K holsters are in this photo. The Bianchi X15 design was made to fit both revolvers and semi autos. The gun hangs verticle instead of horizontal, keeping the muzzle pointed down. I believe this model is still being produced. The 2000/2100 were specific to semi autos and revolvers. These designs were copied by the other manufacturers.

Again, check with the custom holster makers on this forum.

Buddy2507,

I'm not Jim, of course, but I can say that one very useful holster is a simple suede pocket holster... it's very simple to drop into either front pocket of a pair of khakis, or dress or work pants, but probably not in a pair of tight jeans. Anyway, my 2" I-frame (pre-30) carries that way quite inconspicuously.

Yes! The Crotch holster:

I have not used it but did see it demonstrated at the Las Vegas show a few years ago; ideal for small carry guns but the guy also demo-ed the holster with a 1911 full size government model and I was amazed at how well it "disappeared"! Made of nylon type fabrics.

I always wear shorts and a T shirt in hot weather for insulation from the sun bearing down and for the evaporative cooling affect. But with a large short sleeved collared over-shirt to look a little more presentable in public and keep the sun off of my neck. And mostly opened down the front with some lower buttons, buttoned to keep it closed up a bit. I like the lightweight Bianchi horizontal "in the armpit" shoulder holster carry for small snubby revolvers, easily drawn thru the shirt opening and offset with a speed strip of ammo or two under the other armpit.

Jim, reference the top photo, the holster on the right is exactly what I am looking for. Do you know who made it? Any info.

If memory serves me right, the 30-1 cylinder is longer
than for the Model 30, and can be bored for the the 32H&R Mag round.
You might want to try a MICAH Pocket Holster. Fits J frame
and I frame equally well.
Why not take a look around for a Kel-Tec P32? With the
available pocket clip. you don't even need a holster, and the flatness
and light weight mean you can carry it virtually anywhere.
As for the pocket holster, whichever snubby I'm carrying, the
holster works just fine.

Frank,

Looks like a Safariland but some others have copied their two piece construction so hard to be sure.

TACCI,

Correct, my 1st conversion to .32 H&R Mag was this 30-1 (J frame cyl is 1.390" long and 1.305" OD):
orig.jpg

Post Transitional I frames starting with the "Improved" I frame .32 cylinders are still only 1.250" long. BUT have the larger 1.305" Cyl O.D of the J frames.

The 32 H&R Mag round from rim to bullet tip is 1.275". Therefore, the "Improved" I and the Model of 1953 /Mod 30 and 31 'NEW' I frames, i.e., all of the pre J frames that have J frame OD cylinders, are a little short by .025". I have converted one for a hand loader who just seats his 32 Mag bullets .025" deeper.

Allow me to answer this question, since the holsters belong to me. I doubt Hondo44's eyes are good enough to look into GA from CA. I meant to go back and I.D. them.

First photo, L to R, Safariland 17, Bianchi model 6 Waistband, Safariland 16.

Second photo, Bianchi Shadow 8L.

Third photo, Safariland 17 and Bianchi 5BH. The 5BHL was lined.

Fourth photo is a Don Hume 721 OT (open top), there is a thumb snap version of this too. The Galco SM122 is very similar.

The shoulder holsters are top row, L to R, Bianchi X15, X15, X-2000 Phantom, X2100 Phantom, X2100 Phantom.

The bottom row is a Triple K, Bianchi 209 Silent Partner, Galco Miami Vice (modeled after the Bianchi 13 Scorpion), and a Safariland 101.

Crotch holsters, "Thunderwear"

Sheriffoconee bought, wore, and liked this type of holster. He later started using the Remora holsters and praised them as well. We have a female officer here in my town that carries a Seecamp .32 a.c.p. in a Thunderwear type holster and it is not noticeable.

I've been considering rechambering my 31-1 to .32 H&R.
Does it adversely affect accuracy with .32 S&W Long ammo?

I could always load my Longs to H&R pressures, but if I ream it to H&R depth, I can buy factory H&R ammo, as well as BB H&R ammo.

Jaymo,

None, no change in accuracy with 32 long in my experience. And not much difference in point of impact between the two but I do not shoot the 32 Long beyond 20 yards.

excellent.
Is it safe with Buffalo Bore .32 H&R?

excellent.
Is it safe with Buffalo Bore .32 H&R?

Jaymo,

I've not used it as yet. But here's what Buffalo Bore states about it on their website:

"HEAVY 32 H&R MAG. +P Ammo - 100 gr. JHP (1300fps)
This ammunition is full powered 32 H&R mag. and is safe to use in all firearms chambered for 32 H&R mag. and 327 Federal Mag., EXCEPT the original H&R revolvers, that as of this date, (04-21-11) have long been out of production."

They do not state the pressure level or if it exceeds the standard of 21000. Most factory ammo does not attain ANSI/SAAMI pressure levels which are maximum levels. I suspect BB may meet but not exceed them, or it would be stated! Therefore, I would not shoot it much in a converted revolver or even any minimally sized revolver factory chambered for 32 H&R Mag. The +P ammo does not "blow up" minimally sized guns that are not specifically designed for it as a general rule.

What happens is a cumulative effect of rapid stress wear and fatiguing of the gun's components. This is even true of guns specifically 'beefed up' and designed for +P ammunition, albeit not as quickly.

+P ammo is not fun to shoot either! My strategy is to test fire a few in my gun, if it's my self defense gun of choice, just to know what they're gonna' feel like when or if I have to use them! I would practice with standard loads. But when I conceal carry my gun, I will load it with +Ps. I will then have the maximum firepower for that particular caliber when it counts the most, along with the knowledge that the gun will not 'wear out 'or fail before I'm able to get those 6 shots off!

I hope that helps,

Hay everybody , What about 32 new colt police marked ammo.

If it says "32 Colt New Police" it's basically just 32 S&W Long with a slightly different bullet nose. Should shoot to same POA/POI, within reason.

Froggie

Yep, same thing. When Colt chambered their guns for the S&W 32 cartridge, they just couldn't stand stamping their guns with 32 S&W so they produced their own version of the ammo. Competition was fierce in those days!

I use a Remora holster for small frame and even k frame model 10 carry. I use the appendix carry location for the small frame guns and even a model 10 snub. The gun is hidden by my generous mid section. But the Remora works well for people with much better shapes. Look here:
