45 CALIBER internet match

For DECEMBER, 25 yards Off THE BENCH. Rest all you want.

OK... judges' ruling- A new indoor range opened nearer my home, and its max distance is 60' I'll be going for December's target with that distance.

I'll be going at this with a rattlebones Mil. Spec Colt (most of you are tiring of me posting pic's of...:D)

Recently, I cobbled up a redneck rest in which to better evaluate various reloads, and with it, I learned two things: I can't shoot a 1911 for **** offhand holding, and using the rest to take the "operator error" somewhat out of the equation, my tests showed me more accurate ammo using a slower powder.

So... heading to the range in a day or two!

Mote that these were at 20 yards (60 feet)... the max length of this indoor range... all shots thru a Colt M1991 Ser. 80

Bumped up a load by .2 gr. and here's what I got... hardly scientific, but happy with this. (I have almost 2# of this Hungarian REX II and it'll do fine)

:D OK How do you get a flier whilst sitting in a v-block rest?? I did!

Still in last place...

Howdy people!

Thanks for the above complement on the old Sambars.
I developed a lust after seeing those stags for the first time and felt compelled to possess them!

Tried again with the old Combat Elite and managed 3 1/2 inches which is good for me!
Sitting @ 25 yards and rested between me knees, as per usual with my standard SWC handload.
I was breaking in a new old stock, milled short trigger and a Rowell ring hammer I picked up recently.

OK, TenTea... you've bettered your 2nd place with yet another fab 1911... :D

I'm STILL gonna try again with the ol' Mil Spec. The month is still young. This is my quest.

Now- you got cooler guns, a further distance... would you please spill info on what you call "my standard SWC handload" ??

~~

Nice shootin' !

Hi !

Thanks HF.

Honestly, I'm not even keeping score with youse guys and have no idea what *place* I am in.
I'm just doing the best I can with what I have, posting it up and having fun at the range.

OK, several years ago, during the early stages of the powder shortage I picked up 8 lbs of Alliant American Select as insurance.
I have since exhausted my supply of WIN231 and VV N32C and gotten some *new* standard loads worked up for 45 and 38.

This one for 1911's is a Saeco #69, 200gr. SWC flat base bullet, cast with COWW alloy of ~BHN8.
I load mixed brass with a REM 5 1/2 small pistol primer and...
4.5 grains American Select which is likely a little under 800 fps.

Nothing magical as the bullet is tried and true, the primers were available when I needed them. The powder is not so common though, I guess.

The small primers also work for 38 special so stockpiling is simpler, although it all goes out the window when 45 auto rim rears its head for revolvers...haha!

Be Well

To add:

For my porpoises, .45 caliber projectiles utilized in semi-auto's are sized to .452, whilst those for revolvers are sized to .454...

I look forward to January. December's entries find me still in last place. :o

I'll post these below as "fun" only, because I was focused on working up more test loads and not shooting 10 shots. So this is the best of the lot. I invoke the Engineer1911phrase for the rest of the test- they were in a sea of ineptitude.

:D

HAHA! @ the sea of tude...

Your target notes are inspiring to me as I await a big ole jug (tm) of HP38 to come off backorder.
Should only be a few more years and I'll have it!
Until then, we make due...or doo or dew or do, as the case may be. ;)

2 7/8" with a BEAUTIFUL 1955 Target.

Please PM me your address TenTea and I will send your prize.

I am going to drop this competition for a few months and start a 44 magnum match. I see all these beautiful model 29 with scopes, I want to see how they REALLY shoot.
