Do You Still Have The First S&W You Ever Bought?

My first S&W was a 39-2 that I bought used for $100 in 1980 I gave it to a Minister friend in 1986 or 87 for his travels. I'm currently at 2 J-frames, 6 K-frames, 1 L-frame and 4 N-frames, plus a 422 and a 1896
"Lemon Squeezer". I always "need" and could "use" another! Ivan

I still have my very first one and the box it came in. It is a model 37 which I purchased in 1975.
If I remember correctly I paid about $125. for it and I do have the original receipt for it somewhere.
I'll never part with it!

No, my model 41 is long gone. But I still have my second one, a model 63 kit gun! That is not going anywhere!

No. Gave the model 19 I got in 1980 in NY to a friend of mine in Cali a few years after moving here. He had just bought a house in a sketchy area of Venice and I wanted him to feel safe. Yeah, I sometimes regret not just buying him a Charter Arms..he wouldn't know the difference anyway.

First S&W

My first S&W was a break-top that I found at a gun show in Anchorage, AK back in the early 90s. It was a 38 S&W with almost no nickel finish left, but it was in such good mechanical condition that I refinished it in nickel, had a custom holster made for it and shot the socks off it in CAS. Still got it.

Yup. First S&W and IIRC first centerfire handgun, a used minty 2.5" model 19 (forget dash #, is not P&R). No internet back then and I didn't know much about guns, the display cases were full of 1911s, Taurus and S&W pistols, some plastic thing called a "Glock" (what the....????) and Ruger Mk IIs, I thought the old-school wheelgun (from the 70s, I thought back then) was something special. It was :)

Don't plan on selling it ever. Have plenty of others to sell if I need $$ and nothing like it will ever be made again.

It was two...a 625 Classic and 629PP.

Sold 'em both and don't regret it. Got a 22-4 and 3.5" pre 27 later that I like quite a bit better.

The 625 was heavy and ugly and the 7.5" 629 was more gun than I needed. Both were excellent shooters.

The nickel 4" 22-4 and 3.5" 357 are beautiful, practical, and fantastic shooters as well.

I still have my first, a m+ p 15-22.
And my second a 686 + 3".
Both bought new, but the 686+ was a s&w demo that I got at a lgs that was having
a s&w day. It has a very nice trigger (you don't take the ugly girl to the prom, wink
wink nuge nuge).

If what I traded it for is ALSO a S&W, is that still a yes? :p

6 1/2" 24-3, in '81, I think. Just - didn't like it. Don't know why. Finally traded it off in '08 for a 22-4 Thunder Ranch 45. Shot the 45 MUCH more, in the six years I've had it, than I did the 44 in the 17 I had it, so I guess it was a good trade.

I still have my first S&W Model 39 with the box and all accessories which I believe I purchased in 1976.

Yes....Yes I do. Mid 70,s Model 19. Loved the gun so much , I went out and bought my Dad one. He still has his too. :D

I wish! During a hiatus from college, in 1961, I bought a 1950 Target .44 Special, for all of $65. Father became terminally ill, and in order to raise funds to go back to school, I sold it to a friend. He had it stolen from a fraternity house at Bradley University.

Still got mine. It's a pre model 10 4" pencil barrel. It was nickle. sort of, when I got it. It was a police turn from somewhere I think. At $70, it looked rough but the action was smooth, and it shot like a laser.

Besides the first one I bought in the o.p., this one has been in the family since before I was born. My dad picked it up somewhere in the 50s. The empty brass in was from a starter pistol when we were running track in the 7th grade. I ran over and picked them up. mummified rat also a prized possession. Pictured here often.

Well. no I don't still have the first one I bought (it was an old model 624 .44 Special. (first pic and avatar)

But I still have my grandfathers 1885 S&W top break.38. (pics 2 and 3) Does that count. :)

I bought my first Smith in the late 70's. It was a Model 60 no dash stainless. I carried it as a back-up on duty and off duty. Even though it is retired like me I still can't and won't part with it. Maybe it reminds me of my youth, maybe not. but none of the other guns I own mean as much to me as this one. :)

While I've bought and sold many pistols over the Decades, I've only bought two S&Ws and I still have both.

The first was my 19-3 that I bought in '74 and the second was my Shield that I bought in '12.

My first S&W Purchase was a 6" Model 19 bought in 1976. I sold it, along with the rest of my handguns in the early 80s when my kids were at the exploring and sneaking-through-things age. After they were old enough to move on, I bought another 6" Model 19 and quite a few other models.
