M&P Slide Locked/Jamed

From the pictures it looks like one side of the slide may have came slightly off track, can you post a closer picture of that slide release lever?

There should be a large gap at the top of the barrel, and the bottom of the barrel should be resting against the hole in the slide with the appearance of having a small gap. Yours looks like it riding high.

Here's what mine looks like inside the ejection port. Can you post a similar pic?

I would try pushing down on the end of the barrel while pushing forward on the rear of the slide. Be careful though not to pinch anything, fingers etc.

I agree with Bob O, it deffinitly looks like its riding a bit high. If that slides off track that will surely lock it back.

A few more pics. Yes Bob, compared to your picture, my barrel is riding high. It looks like the barrel shroud is in contact (maybe) with the slide.

Is your slide lock lever jammed or can it move upward at all?

Yes, the slide lock lever moves up and down just fine, but they do not contact the lever lock cut outs in the slide. The slide is too far back, about 1/8" to 3/16" too far back. So the levers are in their down position.

Can you post a close up pic with the slide lock lever held upward so we can see where the catch is?

Sure, that's easy. Pic with my hand model index finger pushing the slide lock up.

Great!!!! It's definitely not back too far, the problem is that it won't go forward. Check the vid I just posted and see if that unlocks things.

Dang. Next thing I would try is to rap the back of the slide with the palm of your hand. Don't baby it......at this point it cant hurt it.

I banged the back of the slide 5 or 6 times on the floor - I have an oriental rug, no carpet pad and then oak floors. I banged it pretty good - no baby strokes to the back of the slide. Still locked up.

Cr@p, I'm out of ideas. :(

Could be something internal has broken.

Thanks for the help Bob. We'll see if anyone else has an idea. My friend can always contact Smith and Wesson and send it to them.

I would try to get a good grip on the slide with your support hand over the top of the slide wearing a glove will help then slam your shooting hand into the grip like you were going to grip the gun and see if that might forse the slide back just a little and loosen it up. It is the procedure used to forse the slide open on a jam. Don

Ok, thanks - I followed the directions and I got the striker out. Still no joy - the slide is locked back tighter than a tick still.

Now that we know that the striker isn't locking the slide up, that only leaves the barrel and the recoil spring assembly. Looking at your picture it appears that the slide is locked short of all the way back. What happens if you try to push the slide farther to the rear? Try gripping the pistol normally and then try to push the slide farther back by catching the slide on the edge of a table (with the barrel protruding past the edge) and pushing down. I'm thinking that part of the recoil spring assembly broke and is jamming the slide in place. Wish I could do more (actually I wish you lived close so we could go out in my shop and fix it;))

Thanks for jumping in Bkreutz - I tried jamming the slide back with the wooded edge of one of my work benches. I put considerable force into it to try and move the slide further back. Wouldn't budge. Still stuck.

Yep, we are a ways apart, I am in New Orleans.
