Windows 10!

I have been running 8.1 on my laptop for about 18 months. Upgraded last week to 10, have not change any settings and all appears ok. they fixed the bug I could never fix, now my wireless mouse works like a charm and does not crash. I am even watching Tv via the laptop now.

OMG that's a laugh.......

Couldn't get any help from MS. Hour and a half wait time on the help line. Don't do it. I suspect the horror stories will be hitting the media soon and MS will be pulling the update.

What do you expect from a company that has never put out an instruction book on it's product? I think I remember seeing such an animal in DOS days with IBM pcs but never with Windows. If you have a problem they tell you to ask other users that may have had the same problem you do and figured out a solution.

Actually Windows 3.1 came with a full blown manual too - but it was just an OPTIONAL graphical interface shell installed over DOS. Windows 95 came with a very stripped down manual. That was the last version with ANY kind of printed manual IIRC...

The only issue I had was with the Norton 360 product. The website said it would be updated when win 10 was installed. It never did so. I had to download a new copy and reinstall it.

My son had an issue with his machine. A driver for his network card was having issues and using massive amounts of memory ( 8 gigs ) he found the driver using the system tools and got a new driver for it and problem solved.

I would suggest visiting the video and network vendors website and ensure you have all the latest drivers before the upgrade.

I'm still running Windows XP. It's always worked, and it still works. Why change?

John

I'm still running XP on my desktop and my laptop. Starting to have issues with the software I use no longer supporting XP. Several of my programs don't work properly on either of my machines.

I just ordered a new desktop with Windows 10 installed. Should have it next week. We'll see how it goes. ;);)

Going back to 7 or Apple

After fooling with 10 for a few hours I think I'm going back to 7. My problem is that all the "Office Suite" programs have to run as an administrator. MS fixed Outlook for me but the next guy said I had to go to Office 20-newer than what I have (2010 - which worked fine on Win 7)
I have one program (ACT) that is not compatible with Apple - does a MAC have a "PC mode"?

Thanks,

Jeff

When I built my new desktop pc last year I did away with Microsoft office and downloaded OpenOffice. It has pretty much everything Microsoft Office Suite does and it's FREE!

I just "upgraded" to Win 7 Pro from XP. Out of all of them I still prefer XP, never a problem.

I eliminated the annoying Win 10 update Icon from my task Bar! Blocked it from ever returning.:)

Thanks, looks like a nice program for Word replacement. Unfortunately it did not solve my "administrator" problem and it doesn't seem to be able open PDF's or .dwg files

Latest update

I restarted my computer and it said that it had to reinstall Outlook. Then it said that it couldn't find the files. THAT WAS IT - went back to 7. Took less than 5 min. What a relief!

Why go to Windows 10? Are they dropping support for 7, etc.?

I'm afraid that 10 may have more flaws and be more intrusive, violating privacy even more than prior systems.

They keep trying to shove Chrome down my throat, but I'm not having it.

After using Firefox for years, I cannot understand why anyone would want IE (ugh) or Chrome. I occasionally use Opera, and it would be my #2 choice after Firefox. I actually have installed all four browsers on my computers, just in case.

I'm still waiting for some solid information about whether there are any Windows 10 compatibility problems with older software before I even consider changing from Windows 7. I've seen very little commentary about that.

I have Open Office on one of my laptops, and it seems to be completely compatible with all my Microsoft Office-created files. And it's free.

I am still using Win 7. About a year ago it started crashing my computer every time I let Win 7 do an up date. Duh! I stopped letting it up date and now it works fine.

I have read (I think on Yahoos tech page) that there have been multiple crashes and you cannot turn off auto-updates and that there are a lot spyware progs. built in from MS. with no way to turn off. Which is why I am waiting until at least SP1 comes out. Then I may think about it. As far as browsers go I will probably stick with whatever comes with the OS. All browsers are not the same.

I have an iPhone 4S and Chrome just will barely operate on it but it's really junky, my new isp's webmail program is designed for Chrome and my E-mail will not load at all with Safari. Anyway like I said I'll probably just stick with whatever comes with the new OS.
