I am once again in the beginning stages of a project I started in the 90s and parked.

I would like to try and get back at it and make me a Win Model 94 Scout.

I originally wanted my rifle to be a Trapper as the last few inches of this barrel is pitted on the exterior surface.

Now, I don't care….I will just paint my rifle and keep it a 20".

this gun was given to me by my dad in the 90s and it was locked up. I don't recall how he got it but it was not functioning, so I got it working.

anyway…the barrel band (by the front sight) has always been missing the screw and not sure if the band hole has been drilled or does it take a certain screw. definitely not the tapered screw.

any ideas what screw that is?

does the tapered screw bind up against the barrel and tube?

it appears the hole on this one is enlarged but I don't have another one to compare it too.

would it be this one https://www.gunpartscorp.com/Products/268170B.htm

Winchester Large Loop Question

I bought this from Winchester in the 90s. I recall it had a serial number cut off for this particular loop. the gun I have it on exceeds the serial number cut off. does anyone have info or a link to what the serial number cut off was for a true Winchester large loop?

BUMP……

I am going to try again.

any experts that can tell me the correct screw for the front barrel band (pictured) on this 1978 serial Win Model 94?

I want to paint this rifle and make it a shooter.

the hole is drilled square (meaning no taper). I no longer have any other M94 to compare. I am wondering if my barrel band is jacked up.

The screw is available from about any parts house like Numrich. The screw looks about like any other screw except it is only threaded at the very end. I know nothing about never model 94's. I did not know Winchester made a large loop. For the life of me I can not figure out what such a large loop is for. Most larger loops are meant to accommodate gloved hands. This loop would be large enough for a gloved gorilla. Can anyone educate me as to the reason for the loop?

The reason for the loop? I don't know the name but I call it "roll cocking" the rifle. Here's Chuck Conners demonstrating it:

John Wayne found it useful also!!!!! ;) :D

in the 80s and early 90s, they used to modify or open up lever loops for gloves/larger hands/comfort. I bought this large loop in the 90s to modify my gun like "The Rifleman" (Chuck Connors) but I recall the Winchester packaging said it was for a certain serial number range and below. it fits very sloppy on my gun (side to side slop, but it works) and I want to return it to the original config.

BTW, I have rather large hands and get made fun of a lot. How did you know I had gorilla hands? (HA!!)

I dont recall what model this large loop came on, but its large. too large and I parked this rifle in the late 90s and have hardly shot it. I want to get it going by this winter.

they sell two screws, flat or taper….I don't see a taper on my band and wondered if the tapered part of the screw just bumps on the barrel.

Oh well, I bid on a complete band and screw (only wanted to purchase the cheaper screw) and hopefully I win it at a low price.

Post '64 front band screw is not tapered. The pre-64 front band screw was 4-56,,but I don't know if they changed that post '64 (probably did).
(Marlin pre-war was 5-40 FWIW)

Homestead Firearms Parts has most all that sort of stuff at reasonable prices.

Winchester 94 POST 64 Winchester mod 94 POST 64 parts Winchester changed the model 1894 rifle around serial number 2,586,000 to the model 94. It looks the same and the parts have the same names but 95 percent of the parts are different sizes and thre

The Ft and Rear band screws are on the first page for $3 e.
Large loop lever a couple pages in.

94 Big Bore front band are the same but a little longer.
