Anybody else like VZ grips? I really like the feel of the G10 RB combats on my 686-4 and 696. They look better than rubber and are very weather resistant. When I have really nice wood stocks on a gun I am always worried about banging them up. The VZ's are heavier than wood, but I don't mind that. A steel gun isn't light to begin with and more weight helps control recoil. I dressed these up with some brass medallions I found on Ebay.

Love them on 1911s, hate them on revolvers. Uncle Mikes combat grips are far superior IMO.

Now looking at the photos shark bait's grips look shorter than Roy P. Is that just the angle of the photo? I just ordered a set of the 320's for my 386 SC/S

I love my VZ grips on my 1911 as well. Never tried them on a revolver, but I'm considering getting a set for my new 686 3". I really like Hogue's grips, both rubber and wood, but they look a little too long on a 3" barrel gun...it doesn't look balanced.

VZ Grips are a great quality product in my opinion. I don't have any on my Smiths, but I have to sets for my Kimber Solo. They always look great!

I've got a set of Ultra Thin VZ grips (badged as Wilson Combats) on my Beretta 92 that are a perfect fit for my hand.



Finger grooves never seem to agree with my grip, so they are absolutely out of the question for me on a revolver.

Very good quality grips IMO.

I put them on my 325pd 4" & I like the way they feel. The only downside beside the weight is that the backstrap sits a little proud from the grips but I guess it doesn't matter otherwise they fit perfectly.

I also like them; however, due to my small hands the finger grooves don't line up for me and I can't use them. I wish they would make them without the finger grooves like the old round butt target grips (banana grips).

They don't soak up much recoil. But neither does wood. They fill my hand nicely and spread the recoil sufficiently, so I find them comfortable on my L frames. If I wanted to shoot a lot of magnum loads out of a J or N (.44 Mag) frame I would stay with the Hogue rubber grips.

Agreed. I had a set that I picked up from a forum member for my N frame 625 and although they felt good in the hand shooting them was a different story. I found the finger grooves to be rather sharp feeling. Much different from the smoothness of well made and rounded wood grips. I thought about modifying them but decided that I would rather trade them for something else rather than ruining them.

I do think they look great, but they are too heavy, especially for the smaller and lighter guns. It makes no sense to put a pair of 4oz grips on an aluminum or scandium J Frame. Or even the bigger Scandium guns where the VZ grips can weigh up to 6 ozs!

Ahrends grips look great too and weigh 80% less depending on the wood you select. Maple and Walnut being the lightest.

All this makes me come to a conclusion i had noticed. That shooting with wood grips, 45 or 357 mag loads on a N frame, around 150+ rounds at a time, hurts the hand pretty bad. Hogue rubber grips are the best. Ive wanted to try those g10s but the fiberglass laminate doesn't seem like they'll soak up much recoil. My 625 came with 2? Wood grips. The smooth jm wood grip was better than the smaller wooden grip but they both turn the webbing between thumb and index finger pink after 100 rounds. Strawberry pink after 150 rounds. I recently traded some stock rubber grips from a 627 i had to try (both N frames) and oh what a difference! I even stopped flinching as i was pulling the trigger (to anticipate for the pain......)
Those vz grips look nice, but ill stick to ugly tire rubber!
