Model 437

Just got an e-mail ad from S&W which lists the 437 among others at various locations starting Fri Sept 4. I wish one of the locations was near me I'd buy one.

List of events:
Hometown Game Day Blitz - Smith & Wesson

Bud's has a 437 listed but the picture looks like a 438, suspect a misprint.

Bob, thanks for the link. There's an event just a dozen miles down the road from me, and I don't have to work that Saturday.

You're welcome I wouldn't mind a much longer drive but no luck.

I have been looking for the same information. In the email it is not a 2-tone like the ones mentioned above. You would think S&W would have some information on it since they just emailed everyone about it and it is an "exclusive".

I saw a new 637 today. It was all matt blue. The gun in the Buds ad in post 20 is what I handled. It was sitting next to a new 438. Both with locks and the new style rubber "banana" grip. Both were $449. Seemed about $50 high. I'm on the fence about them. I am taking a 24 hr. cooling off period before I decide yes or no and which one if it's yes.

$449? The local shop participating in the Hometown Game Day Blitz is advertising them (for the event) at $375.

Yeah I figured that. Name of the place is "Gougem and How guns, and septic systems"

I don't need a new gun as much as a new washing machine. So I'm gonna pass. It truly pisses me of the way 3 local gun emporiums are over pricing stuff. I can go across the state line to Illinois and buy a current production Smith for $50 less. But the difference in sales tax plus FFL charges screw the deal.

S&W model 437 ... more info

I have a model 437 ALL BLACK.

From what I understand most of the 437s were two-tone with the frame black and the cylinder and barrel being a steel color.

As far as I can tell, mine is like a 430 except mine has an exposed hammer and is marked on the left side of the barrel, "Smith & Wesson .38 S&W SPL +P"

I got it from a private party and was going to use it a a carry gun and have the hammer bobbed.

Now that I know what it is, I am not sure what I am going to do with it.

I am going to call S&W next week and have the serial number run and see if they have any additional info. One guy told me that there were only 500 437s made.

Bill

If there is in fact a Model 437 I'd like to learn more about it. Never seen or heard of one before.

Model 437 - SKU number

The SKU number on my box is 10274.

The model number is 437-2

Bill

Thanks. That's the key that unlocks the door. These guns were for the distributor Ellett Brothers, LLC, in Chapin, South Carolina. Sku (product code) 150674. A sku that begins with "15" is almost always a limited run for one particular distributor, and not something for national distribution. I think they were originally offered in the 2008 - 2009 time frame.

If I had to guess I'd say fewer than 1,000 were made. If there were more, we would be seeing them more often.

They are especially interesting to me because they are what aficionados call "Pintos". Blue/silver contrasting frame, barrel, and cylinder. Doubly cool. Aluminum alloy "Airweight" frame, stainless steel barrel and cylinder. Some guys specialize in collecting Pinto guns. Pinto guns are a tradition that goes way, way, back in S&W (and Colt) history. Of course, back in the day the silver was nickel.

Here's a link to the Ellett Bros catalog....

More on model 437 SKU $

Hi Kennel,

I have double checked the label on the end of the box which is very clear. It says SKU and then under that is 10274.

Hi Kernel, you asked me this ? on a more recent thread when I mentioned the new 442 Pinto with its 5-digit SKU. Perhaps this style of SKU designates PC mfg,....

Yep. I remember that. Is the 5-digit sku an one off aberration or a new thing? Looks like the later.

Perhaps they were running short of possible 6-digit Performance Center product codes. The way the PC uses pc's, with "170" being the first three digits, meant they could only have a maximum of (1,000) 6-digit product codes.

If they kept to their established naming convention, in all it years, has there been (1,000) distinct PC guns? Maybe, if you consider the possibility some were reserved for "marketing study" guns that were never made and existed only on paper.

437-2

Here's my new toy. I'm still on the "waiting period", can't wait to go to the range and shoot some rounds. I believe there is an owners manual in the box. As soon as I can I'll post it here.

I traded for one of these pintos, as new in box, mine is a model 437 no dash, it is the black air weight frame with stainless cylinder, barrel, screws and pins, my box label shows model 437, 38sp, sku is 150674
serial number cmw89xx,brass case with gun shows a date of 9/2009

my gun is almost like the other photos of the pinto guns in this thread, with the exception of the fact that the rubber grips are Altamont Falconia boot grips with a white pearl insert in them with the two tone texture rubber, with he intertwined S&W logo high on the shoulder toward the hammer

I don't know if they were an add on after the initial purchase but it caught my eye

Are you sure, Bill? SKU numbers are typically six-digit. They use to be termed "product codes".
there a gb listing out there now with that same 10274 sku. its an all black gun and it names in the description that it is from another wholesaler run

will smith and Wesson run the same gun as special products for different vendors?
