until last Saturday. Took a fall, stuck corner of nightstand into my ribcage, broke rib #10. Didn't think much about it, Sunday only a little pain, Monday a little more. Today it took me 20 minuted to get out of bed, had to dress sitting on the floor. Wife carted me off to ER. Home again, but I can tell already this pain medication is going to knock me out. Looks like I'll be catching up on my reading for a couple weeks.

Concur ribs do hurt! Broke several multiple times, large animals 😞!
They hurt, standing, sitting, breathing, not breathing, but the worst is sneezing or coughing!!
They don't tape you up anymore, and was told by the ER!docs that Xrays are to determine if there are shards or pointy bones that could puncture organs, otherwise ride it out until it heels. Pain meds and meds to minimize coughing!
Good luck and take it easy!

When our truck was smashed into by an idiot speeding through a stop sign, my ribs met the center console and my wife's met the door arm rest.
Seemed like they were never going to stop hurting.
I always refused narcotics for pain control but that time I nearly acquiesced.
And they weren't broken.

They'll hurt if you pass gas, worse if you try not to. Best part is they seem to stop hurting all of a sudden. Good luck.

Teen age date didn't go so well, walked the young lady to her door. She started to leave me standing there and I said "Hey". With one foot on the stoop she looked over her shoulder and either hiccupped or sneezed... I can't recall. She seized up in pain, turned her over to her folks, explained what happened and left.
She broke a rib when she turned to blow me a kiss.

Now that's.....

Now that's a bummer.:(

I'll bet you didn't even get the kiss before her ribs got stove in. You really shouldn't grab them so hard.:D

Took a steel toed boot to the left side just about 8 inches above my left hip pocket when I was in high school, broke the second from the bottom rib. Hurt like heck at the time, hurt a whole lot worse the next day after the liquor wore off.

Hope yours heals quickly.

I've never been treated....

I've never been treated for a broken bone.

Swing gave way when I was a kid and flew backwards and cracked my skull in the back. If I put both of my hands on my head and pushed in different directions you could hear it scrape like a concrete block being dragged across wet cement. I couldn't convince my parents that I was hurt bad enough to go to the doctor. I was always trying to get attention that way.

Had a good chance of winning District in High School pole vaulting, except my team mate broke the pole fooling around bending it. So I had to use a pole for somebody that weight 180 LB when I was 125 soaking wet. I tried it out before the competition started and I couldn't get over the bar, kept falling back. The runway was hard surface raised about 3" off the ground. The last time I tried I came back down and my foot landed halfway on the surface, giving my ankle an audible 'crack' that people heard all around. I thought it was badly sprained but ended up thinking it was also broken. Gave me trouble for years. Needless to say I didn't compete in the pole vault.

Did something that's very easy to do. The woman I ended up marrying was doing her best to play with my head and I got extremely angry and punched a plastered masonry wall. Put a pretty good dent in it but also broke some hand bones. I ignored it until it got better but vowed never to let a woman get me that angry again.

So in spite of having broken bones, I never was treated for one.

PS: See, back in the old days we didn't go to the doctor for every little thing.:D

I've had the good fortune of never breaking a rib. Broke other bones though. And yes, ribs are the worst.

My dad broke all his ribs on his right side and three on his left in a boating accident. I had to help him out of bed for a while. He's the toughest *** I know and those ribs brought him to tears it hurt so much.

Hope you heal soon.

When a grown man cries, you know it hurts. I've been close a few times. Lower back had me standing up but not able to move at all. Physical therapy for a torn rotator cuff essentially consisted of twisting my arm behind my back. Holy Moses!

Best of luck for a speedy recovery.

I've broken ribs on four occasions, the most recent was 5 weeks ago. If you are young and in decent shape,it will stop hurting in two weeks. In my case,it took three. Now,I've got a pinched nerve (self diagnosis) in my groin that is killin' me! Can't lift my leg high enough to put on my socks or lace up my boots. Between back surgery, broken ribs and this latest dilemma,my hunting season has been severely curtailed. :(

I've only broken a rib once. Toes and fingers several times.

Don't worry . . . it only hurts when you breathe.

Or move.

Or cough.

Or laugh.

Okay . . . pretty much all the time.

Hope you experience fast healing and an uneventful recovery.

Broke bones? Nothing to it!

October 5,1968 crushed both bones in left wrist, crushed 7" of left thigh just above knee, twist fracture of right thigh into knee joint, bottom 4 ribs broken on left side, cracked a very good H&A RT model helmet, and was unconscious for 28 days. Also broke my $7.95 TIMEX wristwatch on my right arm. Hands were stopped at 7:21. Back was dished in, but crystal was intact. Nothing broken in arm, only bad bruise. Remember "takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'"? It didn't, but I did. Had a couple of operations on my left arm after I woke up. Doctors didn't release me as recovered all I was going to until mid 1970. Tractor trailer blindsided me. Got a nice settlement in early 1972 and first thing I bought a new Triumph Bonneville. Rode it for a several years just to prove I still could. I'm 64 now and aching a bit now from arthritis and not much use of my left hand. My girlfriend I met in Sept. 1969 married me in December 1970, and been taking care of me ever since. Life has been good. Think I used up all my bad luck at once. Only injuries since is a broken collar bone in 1983, just tripped and fell and a former friend accidentally shot me in the leg with a .22, just hit meat. Nothing to that, quit hurting in less than a week. Doctors said I heal real good, guess I've had a lot of practice. Fingers and toes don't count. Takes a lot to get my attention. Always be safe. Pretty good typing with one hand? I only work the shift button with my left, and can still rack the slide on my 870.
