Oh yes, here are Homer Bast's comments for this date 1945 on board the USS Yolo:

June 12, 1945

The night passed slowly. I checked the sky and asked for weather reports. Finally with the dawn came the welcome news the typhoon changed course and to negate the typhoon plan. Breakfast over, I worked all morning and was ready for the rare steak, fries, string beans and jello for lunch. Dinner was served early as a double feature was planned.

Difficulties are being experienced in the bakery hut now that the weather is warm. Additional fans are needed, ports should be cut in the shell, and the charley nobles raised to give the ovens more draft. It is a job our ship fitters can do, but they are so overwhelmed with work we do not want them to start on this.

Well, here are two members of the first-line defense against the emus, both on the job.

Staniel Day-Lewis is on porch duty, attentive, as always.

Belle is looking out the window, checking for any avian advances.

I would fire Staniel, but he actually has bird-killing on his CV...
Guard cat Natayo, on duty.

Skyler says: "I want in!"

My newly acquired pocket rock seems to be trying to communicate. It has built an amplification system and seems to want to play some sort of game. Strange, very strange!

Kwelske, You NEED another Emu attack.
Bwaaahaaaaa
Cracked me up and had me spittin' iced Tea all over myself.
Don't let anybody tell ya' we drifters have too much time
on our hands....:D:D:D

Chuck

Alright confession time.
Well sorta.
Back in my backpacking days, when hiking a trail, Instead of thinking of the entire days hike of 20 miles or so. I'd make it a series of shorter goals.
To the top of the next hill, across the valley, stuff like that.
My wife and I are doing the same kinda thing with our diets.
Instead of one big goal. we're making it a series of shorter goals with a reward for reaching each goal.
The reward's something that's not on our diet and we havta share.
Yesterday my wife hit one of her goal weights and on our way back from the Y we stopped and picked up her treat, a Little Caesar's stuffed crust pizza.
So, I went off my diet and shared it with her.
I know it'll be a small temporary set back but that's groovy.
My next goal's gonna be Dairy Queen gravy chicken strips, fries and a Dilly bar for dessert.

With Japanese troops hopelessly surrounded in the Oroku sector of Okinawa, Japan requested a ceasefire to allow them to commit suicide rather than surrender. Hundreds blew themselves up with grenades or jumped off cliffs.

Stay at it snubbyfan. I think that's a good way to approach it.
A cheating day here and there will not set you back imho.

I had fried chicken Friday, that may be part of it.

Guess I should have done brisket.

As my father said when I showed him a picture I had found of a kamikaze going down in flames... "That's a good one".
