As many of you know, our little 14-year old border collie, Patsy, passed away three months ago. She went with me and the pack string on every pack trip since she was six months old.

After she died, I honestly never thought I'd get another dog, but my wife, our kids, and many of you fine folks here on the Forum gave me good advice...and that was to eventually open my heart up to another canine companion.

I looked at a few puppies during the last couple of months, but nothing clicked. I kept saying to myself that there was just not another dog out there for me.

Well, I was wrong. Saw a litter of border collie puppies a little while ago. I don't think I really picked any one of them...but this one picked me. She was still too young to leave Mama at the time, but we were able to pick her up today.

I think we're going to call her "Suzy," but we'll see how it goes for the next few days.

Thanks, folks, for your counsel and advice. I think this just might work out.:)

Looks like a great start to a new partnership :)

We had dogs when I was growing up, but I had not known a Border Collie well until college....I don't think that we will ever be without one for long, they are really great dogs.

I've said this and I was afraid to for a number of years after my German Shepherd died in 2003. In 2012 I was given a puppy rat terrier and I couldn't imagine life without him. He will be 5 in April and although I have that uncomfortably feeling of him leaving me, as he get older, I don't think I can do without a dog in my life. As much of an inconvenience that they can be sometimes I can't imagine my life without a dog

He looks a great deal like my rat terrier rescue dog Moose, who is thought by the vet to be about eleven now. He adopted me almost six years ago. If I die before he does (quite possible) he may have to be put down to keep him from grieving himself to death. The reverse applies if he dies first...:)

Mule Packer, who could possibly resist the soulful look on that little kisser? She's a doll.

Just look at those ears! And she's looking you dead in the eye, too, isn't she? What...eight weeks old? Beautiful little girl!

You realize, don't you, that we will require regular puppy photo updates for oh, say, at least the next ten or eleven years.

I am very happy for you.

Yep dogs are great companions and a new pup is good medicine for losing one.
My dog when it was a pup probably thought its name was dam it. I just bought a new pair of slippers because she chewed my other pair up. Well this new pair didn't last a week before she destroyed one of them. Just like a kid you have to keep everything up or maybe lose it.

I have two mutts and they are great companions. One was supposed to be a mix of Terrier and a Pug but it actually has neither in its blood line. It is mostly Springer Spaniel mix with who knows what. The other doesn't look like what she is supposed to be either. But they are my mutts now to take care of.
It is said older people that have pets live longer than those that don't have pets. I know I walk more since I got them.
Border Collies are very smart and also well tempered. She will be a big part of the family real soon.
