Ancestory DNA

Just because someone CAN get my DNA or other info, that doesn't mean I want to or it'd be prudent to GIVE it to them.

Heck with that logic, maybe we should all volunteer the make, model and serial numbers of any firearms we own. Maybe include an inventory of ammo and accessories too!

So you incinerate all your trash before you haul it to the curb?

I hope so because it is full of your DNA and once you haul it to the curb you have surrendered it. No legal order necessary. Dishes at the restaurant, drink cans, etc etc. What about your fluids at the Dr office< never give blood or even samples? I guess I am just not that paranoid. Nothing behind me I am that worried about. If it gets to that point there are going to be other things that are worse.

Plucked from this morning's news, here's a for-instance on trace DNA being used by the government:

https://nyti.ms/2k0wGM8

DNA believed to belong to the podcast host, Daryl Campbell, 31, who is known as Taxstone, was found on the trigger, hand grip and magazine of the 9-millimeter Kel-Tec semiautomatic handgun that was used in the shooting in the V.I.P. green room of a crowded Manhattan concert venue, a federal complaint says.

So let me get this straight. People actually pay almost $100 each to create a database with their name, birth date, and DNA??

I can't be the only one who finds this disturbing...

Not hijacking the thread but bending it a little. I did this for my dog ($75 from Amazon). At the kennel in TX he was ID'd as Great Pyrenees and that followed him to the kennel in MO where we got him. His trainer said she saw Akita in his face and the vet parroted GP I think just because that is what is on the paperwork. When I look at him all I see is Lab. The results came back 50% mixed, 38% Siberian Huskie and 12% Chow Chow. So all we can say with certainty is that there are a lot of sluts in his lineage.

Be careful what you ask for!

Nope your not but to each their own.

Know all I need to know about my DNA, I'm half my mother's family genetics and half my fathers. My mother's family is from South Baltimore and my father's family is from Locus Point just down the road. Glad I broke the DNA chain decades ago and moved to WV. Now I don't mind doing genealogy search but don't care about anything past my grandparents. BTW my gp's on my Father's side are from Austria-Hungary and mother's family are from a farm in Hampstead MD they spoke German so probably from there. Problem with the DNA test is you have no way to confirm their results.

I had thought about it but My paranoid side told Me that I don't want to be in a Government DNA data base sooner than necessary even though I most likely already am.

If EVERYBODY was jumping off the bridge, you'd do it too?

Hey, if you want to volunteer your DNA to a database ~ knock yourself out. Me? I'll wait to be drafted, thank you very much.

OK for the paranoid I looked up the government getting DNA from them.

They had one request in 2015 It does take a warrant, but with a warrant they could get some right from your mouth and have it analyzed.

Like I said I could have used any alias I wanted when I send it in. I have never done anything in the past or plan to do anything inthe future that would really interest the government that much. Plus, I figure if they want it they will get it anyway.

Anyway here is there statement
